Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22nd, 2011
11:30 a.m.
 
 
COMMERICAL BREAK AND ENTER- Arrest                     C11-36429
On Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011, just before 5:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service Division 13 Uniform officers responded to a school in the 600 block of Inkster Boulevard for a report of a break and enter in progress. 
 
A number of units attended and surrounded the school. A canine unit assisted and a search of the building located one male suspect within. 
 
This male has been taken into custody without incident. This investigation is still continuing at this time by members of the Division 13 Crime Unit and no charges have been laid.
 
 
ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER- ARREST                              C11-36044
On Monday, February 21st, 2011 at approximately 1:20 p.m. patrolling Winnipeg Police Service Auxiliary Cadet Members observed a male near a bus shelter within the 300 block of Portage Avenue, who was causing a disturbance. 
 
This male was observed by the Cadet members to be yelling and swearing at others nearby and when approached by these members he immediately became confrontational. When the Cadet members requested that the male continue on his way, he refused and instead lunged and shouldered one of the members, causing the member to lose his balance. It was at this time that the suspect male uttered threats towards to both the Cadets, and then shoved one of the members in the upper body.   
 
This male was then taken into custody without further incident by the Cadets, and Winnipeg Police Service Officers were called to assist. Upon arrival of Uniform members, the suspect was male was escorted to the cruiser car. As he was being placed into the car, the suspect male continued to act aggressively, struggling to break free from the officers. During this time the suspect male attempted to disarm one of the police officers and was unsuccessful.
 
There were no reported injuries to either the officers or the cadets during this incident.    
  
John George MADONICK, 19 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following for his alleged involvement in this incident:
 
-     Assault a Peace Officer X2
-          Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm X2 and
-          Disarm Peace Officer
 
MADONICK has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
