Saturday, February 12, 2011 Commercial Robbery Arrests: C11-26014 On February 2, 2011, at approximately 2:30 am, an adult female, and two female youths summonsed a Winnipeg Taxi Cab, to a commercial property in the 1400 block of Mcphillips Street. Upon arrival, the three suspects then entered the Taxi Cab, and had allegedly disguised their identity, prior to it arriving. The suspects then directed the driver to an address on Boyd Avenue, indicating they would point out a residence once arriving at their destination. The driver reached the area of Boyd Avenue and McGregor Street, where a female youth suspect, who was situated in the front passenger seat, produced a weapon and demanded the victim's money. During the victim's attempt to contact Police, the suspect situated in the front passenger side began to assault the victim with the weapon causing lacerations to his upper body extremities. The victim was able to break free from the assailants, and ran from the vehicle, and contacted the Winnipeg Police. The suspects then drove off in the abandoned vehicle, and subsequently dumped it in the 600 block of Aberdeen Avenue. Upon locating the vehicle, General Patrol Members observed one of the suspects in the immediate area, and after a foot pursuit, was apprehended by Winnipeg Police. She was charged with Robbery with a Weapon, Disguise with Intent, and Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. She was held in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre. The victim in this matter was later transported to a Winnipeg area hospital, and treated for his injuries. The investigation was assigned to the District 3 Crime Unit for Follow Up investigation. On February 9, 2011, Members of the District 3 Crime Unit arrested a second suspect, in the 400 block of Church Street. She was charged with Robbery with a Weapon and Disguise with Intent. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear. On February 10, 2011, members of the District 3 Crime Unit arrested the last outstanding female, in the 600 block of Aberdeen Avenue. Jessie Lee Berens, 28 years, of Winnipeg. She was charged with Robbery with weapon, Disguise with Intent, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, two separate Warrant of Arrest for Theft Under $5,000.00. The accused Berens was held in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
