SUSPICIOUS MALE C11-31162
On February 14, 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of a suspicious circumstance involving an 11 year old male in the area of Simcoe Street and Wellington Avenue.
 
Uniform members initially met with the victim who advised that at approximately 4:00 p.m., he was walking home from a friend's residence when he observed an unknown male going through residential mailbox's in the area. As a result, the suspect male called out to the 11 year old indicating that he was a police officer while pulling out a piece of paper from his wallet. The suspect proceeded to ask the victim to come over to him as he had something to show him.
 
The victim fled the area and notified his parents.
 
The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 40 years of age, long black hair to his mid back, possibly tinted eyeglasses, 5'7" in height, thin build, wearing: large tan coloured mitts, black ski style jacket with a design on the front.
 
The investigation is continuing by Division 41 Detectives. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).  
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C11-33013
On February 17, 2011 at approximately 3:30 a.m., uniform members were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision which has taken place in the area of Oakdean Boulevard and Portage Avenue.
 
The investigation has revealed that a Chevrolet Blazer was being operated by a 23 year old male eastbound on Portage Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle and colliding with a hydro pole near Oakdean Boulevard.
 
The driver was initially transported to hospital in critical condition, later upgraded to stable condition.
 
The eastbound lanes on Portage Avenue, west of Sturgeon Road were closed for a period of time.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
STRONG ARM ROBBERY C11-32248
On February 16, 2011 at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Ross Avenue regarding a strong arm robbery which had just occurred.
 
Investigating members have learned that a 19 year old male had attended a social event in the area and exited the building to have a cigarette. It was at this time an unknown male confronted him while armed with a gun and demanded his property. The victim complied by forfeiting his property including an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The gun was not discharged and no injuries were sustained.
 
The suspect fled and is described as follows: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, long black hair tucked into a black winter jacket and blue jeans. The suspect was observed to be in possession of a black handgun at the time of the incident.  
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
FIRE C11-32926
On February 16, 2011 at approximately 11:40 p.m., emergency crews responded to a working fire at a warm-up shack located in the area of the first 100 block of Forks Market Road.
 
Upon arrival, members observed a warm-up shack constructed of hay bales just south of the skate park completely engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished and no injuries were sustained.
 
Witnesses observed an individual dressed in black fleeing the area.
 
Members of the Arson Strike Force are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986- 6813 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
