Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

 Saturday, February 5, 2011 

 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATIONS C11-24698
On February 5, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m., uniform members, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 400 block of Elgin Avenue regarding the sound of shots fired in the area.
 
Attending members located two males suffering from what appeared to be gun shot wounds. A 19 year old male and 22 year old male were subsequently transported to hospital in critical condition where they have since succumbed to injuries sustained.
 
At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the victims, including other individuals were evicted from a house party in the 300 block of Ross Avenue. A short time later, and in the area of Ellen Street and Elgin Avenue the victims met up with a lone male who had also been evicted from the party.
 
It was during this meeting that the lone male suspect produced a firearm and discharged it in the direction of the victims. The suspect fled the area.
 
No arrest has been made at this time.
 
Names of the deceased will not be released until notifications to family members are complete.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit are currently conducting interviews and gathering evidence with respect to the incident.

STABBING C11-24778
On February 5, 2011 at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Jefferson Avenue and Parr Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that a group of individuals were at a party in the area of the 600 block of McGregor Avenue. An argument took place between three female suspects and two male victims, 18 and 19 years of age. The altercation escalated at which time one of the female suspects produced a knife and stabbed the 19 year old male to the lower body. The 18 year old male was physically assaulted about the body. The suspects fled the area.
 
The 19 year old male was initially conveyed to hospital in unstable condition. Both victims are presently in stable condition.
 
At this stage of the investigation, both victims are not forthcoming with information regarding the incident.
 
No arrests have been made at this time.
 
 
MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C11-23907
On February 4, 2011 at approximately 2:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Saskatchewan Avenue and Sturgeon Road.
 
The investigation has revealed that two vehicles had been stopped on Sturgeon Road due to one of them being stuck in the snow and the other which had stopped to assist. A third vehicle travelling northbound on Sturgeon Road collided with the two vehicles. The drivers of the two stopped vehicles were outside theirs vehicles at the time of the collision and did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the third vehicle was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he remains at this time.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
