Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Tuesday, February 15, 2011 

 
ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER ARREST – C11-31089
On February 14, 2011 at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Isabel Street and Logan Avenue regarding a seatbelt infraction.
 
Investigating members made attempts to positively identify the passenger of the vehicle, but discovered a false name had been provided. It was at this time the 23 year old male was placed under arrest. The suspect subsequently assaulted the officer to the upper body and fled the area on foot. The suspect was apprehended a short distance away where he continued to be very combative with officers.
 
As a result of the incident, the officer sustained several minor upper and lower body injuries.
 
Trevor James DACK, 23 years, has been charged with the following alleged offences: Assault a Peace Officer, Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer, Personation with intent to gain advantage, Fail to comply with conditions of a sentence order, including Highway Traffic Act offences.
 
He was detained.
 
 
GROW OPERATION ARRESTS R11-11072
On February 14, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit and the Tactical Support Team executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act Search Warrant at a residence in the first 100 block of Madera Crescent.
 
As a result, officers located a grow operation within the residence consisting of the following:
 
·        408 marihuana plants – estimated street value of $450,960.000
·        Grow operation equipment – valued at $12,000.00
 
Three people were located within the residence and subsequently arrested.
  
Hien NGUYEN, 47 years, Van Luan NGUYEN, 44 years and Lien NGAN, 45 years have been charged with the following alleged offences: Production of controlled substance, Possessing substance for the purpose of trafficking and Theft of Electricity or gas.
 
They have been detained.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARRESTS C11-30750
On February 13, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m., uniform members responded to a convenience store located in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue regarding a commercial robbery.
 
The investigation has revealed that two male suspects entered the business and confronted the store clerk at knifepoint. The suspects demanded that the cash register be opened and eventually fled with an undisclosed amount of cash including a cellular phone.
 
Members of the Winnipeg police Service Canine Unit tracked the suspects to the area of the 500 block of Furby Street at which time they were arrested.
 
Darnell Gordon ROSS, 21 years has been charged with the following alleged offences: Robbery with a Weapon x 2, Possess Proceeds of Crime, Possessing controlled drug or substance and Possessing substance for purpose of trafficking.
 
A 17 year old male has been charged with the following: Robbery with a Weapon x 2, Fail to comply with sentence x 3, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
 
They have been detained.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST C11-29841
On February 12, 2011, at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were notified of a commercial robbery which occurred at a business in the first 100 block of Donald Street.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male suspect confronted a 26 year old female clerk while armed with a knife. The suspect threatened the clerk after which time he demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash.
 
The suspect fled and the clerk was not injured.
 
At approximately 5:00 p.m., the same male suspect attended to another business located in the 500 block of Main Street. He confronted a 58 year old male store clerk while armed with a knife. A confrontation commenced between the suspect and the store clerk. As a result, the clerk sustained and injury to one of his extremities and the suspect received an injury to the upper body.
 
The victim was conveyed to hospital and received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
 
The investigation continued and the suspect was arrested in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Princess Street without incident. As a result of the injury sustained earlier, the suspect was conveyed to hospital.
 
A 40 year old male has been charged with the following offences: Robbery with a Weapon x 2.
 
He was detained.     
 
 
DOMESTIC INCIDENT – ARREST C11-31494
On February 15, 2011 at approximately 4:30 a.m., numerous police resources were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Martin Avenue West regarding a domestic related matter, possibly involving a firearm.
 
As a safety precaution, area road closures and evacuations took place. Attending members eventually made contact with the occupants and a 26 year old male was taken into custody without incident.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON ARREST C11-31285
On February 14, 2011 at approximately 8:05 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Watt Street regarding a stabbing incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that an armed male suspect attended to a residence and confronted two male victims, 45 and 42 years of age. The suspect then stabbed the 42 year old male to the upper body and then the 45 year old male to one of his extremities.
 
The suspect fled but was arrested in the area a short time later.
 
The victims were transported to hospital requiring medical treatment.
 
A 40 year old male has been charged with Aggravated Assault x 2 and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.
