FLIGHT OPERATIONS UNIT INCIDENT and HIGLIGHTS UPDATE     C11-22567, C11-23214, C11-25394, C11-22394:
 
 
On February 2, 2011 at approximately 1:36am, the Flight Operations Unit responded to a Follow Call, to the area of Simcoe Street and Ellice Avenue, where General Patrol Members had been following a suspected stolen vehicle.
 
The follow incident continued, where General Patrol Members lost visual contact of the suspect vehicle. The Flight Operations Unit continued a visual observation of the suspect vehicle, to the first 100 block of Walnut Street, where the occupant abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
 
The Flight Operations Unit held a visual containment of the stolen vehicle and coordinated the foot pursuit, where the K9 Unit successfully tracked and apprehended the suspect a short distance from the vehicle.
 
Subsequent computer checks confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.
 
A 21 year old male suspect has been charged with Theft Under $5,000.00, Flight From Police, and Drive Disqualified (Highway Traffic Act)
 
As result of the Flight Operations Unit being involved in this incident, No pursuit evolved.
 
On February 3, 2011 at approximately 1:32 am, the Flight Operations Units and General Patrol Members responded to the first 100 block of Gilia Street, in response to a possible Break and Enter. 
 
The suspects fled the scene. As result General Patrol Members searched the immediate area with negative results. The Flight Operations Unit, were able to locate the suspects a short distance from the scene in a near by field.
 
 A 43 and 32 year old male suspects were arrested by General Patrol Members. Further investigation revealed that the suspects did not break into the residence, and had stolen some property from the complainant's yard.
 
 On February 6, 2011 at approximately 2:47 am, General Patrol Members responded to the area of Sheppard Street and Mapleton Avenue, for a Wellbeing call.
 
Police were reported that a male was seen walking in the area, bleeding from his upper body, and trying to wave down passing motorists.
 
General Patrol Members located the male in the area. The male appeared intoxicated and confused then ran from Police. General Patrol Members, lost visual contact of the male and the Flight Operations Unit were dispatched and attended the scene.
 
The Flight Operations Unit, located the male victim in the area of Mapleglen Avenue and Manor House Court, where the Unit directed General Patrol Members and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to the victim's location, so that he could be treated for his injuries, and saving him from further danger from the cold.
 
The 23 year old male victim was transported to a Winnipeg area hospital in stable condition, with a laceration to his upper body and extremities.
 
The investigation has been turned over to District 3 Detectives for follow up.
 
On February 9, 2011 at approximately 8:57 pm, responded to the 500 block of Riverton Avenue, in response to a suspected Break and Enter.
 
The Flight Operations Unit attended and assisted with the track of three suspects. The individuals were detained by Police.
 
The incident has been assigned to the East District Station for follow up investigation.
  
Between February 4, 2011 and February 10, 2011, the Flight Operations Unit has been involved in over 50 Police related incidents. The Unit has assisted General Patrol and Tactical Support Team Members with numerous Traffic Stops with the use of the Night Sun (Spotlight).
