FINANCIAL INSTITUTION ROBBERY – ARREST C12-50439
On March 20, 2012, at approximately 1:50 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a robbery incident at a financial institution located in the first 100 block of Lakewood Boulevard in the City of Winnipeg.
 
The investigation revealed that a male suspect entered the business and confronted a 55 year old female employee. The suspect demanded cash resulting in an undisclosed amount being obtained. The suspect fled the business and no injuries were reported.
 
The investigation continued by members of the WPS Major Crimes Unit.
 
In October 2012, investigators collaborated with several police agencies in the Alberta area regarding additional robbery investigations. As a result of information sharing, officers were able to identify a suspect believed to be involved.  
 
On November 2, 2012, WPS members with the assistance of the Brandon Police Service, attended to a hotel located on 5th Street in Brandon, Manitoba.
 
Richard Leonard COLLINS, 46 years was located and arrested due to his alleged involvement.
 
He has been charged with Robbery and detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
The investigation continued by officers from the Edmonton Police Service, Calgary Police Service and RCMP "K" Division. Additional information will be released later today by police agencies in Alberta regarding this matter.
 
 
UPDATE - SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION C12-225736
As previously released - on November 7, 2012, at approximately 3:40 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Portage Avenue and Ferry Road.
 
Members of the Central Traffic Unit were notified and attended the scene. It has been determined that an 11 year old female was crossing Portage Avenue in a north bound direction within the crosswalk. A Ford F250 pickup truck was being operated by a 22 year old male and travelling in the far right curb lane in a west bound direction. As the driver approached the intersection on a red light he began reducing his speed. Upon the light turning green for west bound traffic, the driver continued into the intersection past vehicles still stopped. It was at this time the victim ran out from in front of the stopped vehicles into the path of the west bound truck. The pedestrian was struck resulting in serious lower body injuries. She was transported from the scene in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.  
 
Due to the nature of the collision, Portage Avenue at Ferry Road was closed to traffic for several hours.
 
The investigation is continuing.
 
 
UPDATE - HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION - ARREST – C12-224877
As previously released - on November 6, 2012, at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers responded to a suite located in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue to check on the wellbeing of a resident.
 
Attending members located a deceased male identified as 55 year old, Hank Louis LECOY. The deceased was observed to have sustained upper body trauma.
 
Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and attended.
 
The investigation has revealed that on November 4, 2012, the victim and several other people were socializing in the suite. For reasons unknown at this time, a male present became upset with the victim at which time he produced a knife. The victim was stabbed to the upper body causing fatal injuries. The suspect fled the suite.  
 
On November 7, 2012, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers arrested 50 year old, Sheldon Tony GENAILLE in the vicinity of the 300 block of Kennedy Street. He has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
The investigation is continuing.
