PIXELS FOR PISTOLS

The Winnipeg Police Service and the City of Winnipeg are committed to addressing gun violence. We recognize that this commitment requires the community to do their part to surrender firearms and assist in keeping the City of Winnipeg a safe place to live.

The Winnipeg Police Service and The City of Winnipeg are proud to partner with Henry's Photo-Video-Digital to present the Pixels for Pistols Program. This program will result in the safe recovery and disposal of unwanted firearms and ammunition by the Winnipeg Police Service.

"Any initiative that prevents gun violence is worthy of our support," said Mayor Sam Katz. "The Pixels for Pistols program is a way for people to dispose of firearms safely. I applaud Henry's Photo-Video-Digital for partnering with the Winnipeg Police Service to make our city safer."

As an incentive Henry's Photo will provide citizens with a Panasonic FH8 Digital point and shoot camera and a Henry's School of imaging gift card, a value of $240.00, for each workable Firearm they turn in to Police. For every non-working or replica firearm, citizens will receive aHenry's School of Imaging Gift Card valued at $75.00.

This Program is available to the citizens of Winnipeg only.

To further encourage citizens of Winnipeg to contact the police and surrender firearms and ammunition, anyone turning in a firearm will not be charged with possession and storage offences under The Firearms Act. Each firearm turned in will be investigated thoroughly and should the firearm be linked to criminal activity, individuals could face prosecution.

"As a community it is important that we work together to ensure the safety of our citizens. This initiative is a practical way for citizens to help police keep guns out of the hands of criminals, making Winnipeg a safer community," said Acting Chief Devon Clunis.

Citizens are asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service at 204-986-6222 and advise the call taker that they wish to turn over their Firearm(s) for disposal. Their information will be taken over the phone and Police will attend to their residence in order to pick up the firearm.

CITIZENS ARE NOT TO TAKE ANY FIREARMS TO POLICE FACILITIES OR ANY HENRY'S LOCATION.

Members of the Report Car Unit will attend at the citizen's residence and complete all the necessary forms. The citizens will be issued a receipt which they are to retain until they are notified to pick up their camera voucher. All firearms will be taken to the Winnipeg Police Service Firearms Investigative Analysis Section (FIAS) where they will be tested. Once it is determined that the firearm qualifies for the Program the citizen will be contacted and advised to attend the Public Safety Building at 151 Princess Street with their receipt as well as proper identification. Citizens will then receive their camera voucher which they can redeem at any Henry's-Video-Digital location in Winnipeg.
