Winnipeg Police Service News Release

April 1st, 2012   STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARREST   C12-58332 On April 1st, 2012 at approximately 2:45 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 members responded to a gas station parking lot within the 800 block of Ellice Avenue for a report of a male that had been stabbed.   Upon arrival officers located a 42 year old male who had sustained stab wounds to his upper body.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition.   Attending members were alerted that the suspect male had just exited a nearby convenience store. Upon observing officers the suspect immediately fled on foot but was taken into custody by officers after a brief foot chase.      As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit, a 19 year old male has been charged with robbery with violence, aggravated assault and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking for his alleged involvement in this incident.    Awasis John BEARDY, 19 years of Garden Hill, Manitoba has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.      For further information contact either: Constable Natalie Aitken, Public Information Officer Constable Jason Michalyshen, Public Information Officer Office: (204)986-3061 Fax: (204) 986-3267 Email: WPS-PIO@Winnipeg.ca   Web: www.winnipeg.ca/Police
