Future Women In Law Enforcement

The Winnipeg Police Service, the RCMP, and Canada Border Services Agency have partnered together to host the third Future Women In Law Enforcement (FWILE) workshop.

Our agencies recognize the vital role that female front-line officers play in our commitment to protect and serve our communities and country. Through this workshop, we will deliver a creative and interactive learning experience for women interested in law enforcement careers, foster these ambitions, and empower them to identify and unleash their individual potential.

"We know law enforcement – and the broader community – is best served when our officers are a reflection of the community," says Superintendent Gerri Forscutt, of the Winnipeg Police Service.   "We want this weekend's participants to come away from this workshop with a better understanding of the job, the recruiting process – and most importantly that there are opportunities for them in law enforcement."

On Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5, 2018, various activities are scheduled to take place, including interactive case studies, roundtable discussions, and specialized information stations. The intention is to showcase what participants' existing skills are relevant to a career in law enforcement.

"The value of women in law enforcement cannot be overstated," said RCMP Supt. Joanne Keeping. "Peacekeepers, protectors, difference makers – these are all roles that make a huge impact in communities. Realizing you have the potential to make that impact in service to our communities is very empowering, and that is what we are here to show these women who are choosing a future in law enforcement."

Approximately 60 women from across the province are scheduled to attend, as well as numerous officers and civilian members who will be facilitating the workshop.

"Women play a critical role in securing Canada's borders and fulfilling the CBSA public safety mandate. We are actively recruiting candidates of all backgrounds to join our team, and are proud partners in mentoring the next generation of women in law enforcement." – Catherine Keiller, Recruiter, Canada Border Services Agency.
