Attempt Murder Arrests - C15-31898
On February 14, 2015, shortly before 6:00 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to a restaurant in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue for the report of a stabbing.
 
Four males, 32, 35, 37 & 44 years of age, were found to be suffering from apparent stab wounds.  All were transported to hospital in various conditions; one critical, one unstable and two stable.  A black Dodge Charger seen leaving the area was reported to be involved.
 
Shortly thereafter, members of the Canine unit spotted the Charger and followed it to the 1400 block of Portage Avenue where it was observed to collide with a concrete barrier.  The three occupants, two males and a female were taken into custody.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
It was learned that the suspects, three males and a female, had been part of a larger group of patrons who had been asked to leave by an employee.  It was at this time that one of the suspects produced a weapon and assaulted the employee in the upper body.  A second employee attempted to assist and as a result sustained stab wounds to the upper body as well.  Two other employees sustained injury when they attempted to assist their co-workers.  While this was happening, the female suspect stole keys to the Charger and drove it up to the club to facilitate the escape of the three other suspects.  Only two of the suspects were able to enter the vehicle prior to it being driven off.  The remaining suspect was arrested at the scene.
 
For their alleged involvement, Mohamed ABDULLE (22) & Tristen Tevone BAILEY (22) both from Toronto, ON, Tashari Carmen Edith BENNETT (25) of Mississauga, ON & Raheem THOMAS-STEWART (19) of Brampton, ON have all been charged with numerous offences including Attempt to Commit Murder, Aggravated Assault and Assault Cause Bodily Harm x 2.
 
All were detained in custody.
 
 
Strong-arm Robbery Update – Arrest – C15-20163
As previously released, on January 28, 2015, shortly before 11:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched for the report of a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred in the area of Ellen Street and William Avenue.
 
Officers met with the 21-year-old victim who advised that she had been walking in the above area when she was approached by an unknown male.  The male began asking her questions and then suddenly lunged at her and managed to steal her purse, fleeing north on Ellen.  The victim observed the suspect to drop her purse which she was able to retrieve.  Property from within the purse was missing.
 
The victim was not injured.
 
The suspect was described as: Black male, 5'3"- 5'5" tall with an average build.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit who were able to identify a suspect.
 
On February 13th officers located and arrested the subject without incident in the Wolseley area.
 
A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of Robbery & Sexual Assault for his alleged involvement.
 
He was released via a Promise to Appear.
 
 
Vehicle Robbery Arrests – C15-31678
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the reports of several incidents occurring over February 12th & 13th, 2015.  They include:

  • February 12th  - 2010 BMW stolen from the 500 block of Sargent Avenue just after 5:00 p.m.
  • February 12th - Theft of merchandise from a store in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue
  • February 13th - Attempt vehicle robbery in the 1100 block of Fife Avenue at approximately 10:00 p.m.  Suspects attempted to steal the victim's car as she was about to leave.  Several bystanders intervened and the suspects fled in the previously stolen BMW.
  • February 13th - Stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue.  Victim observed two of the suspects in his vehicle.  He was able to thwart their attempts to leave and the suspects ran to the previously stolen BMW and all four suspects fled.

On February 12th, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers were off in the 1100 block of Fife Street interviewing witnesses from the attempt vehicle robbery when they observed the stolen BMW.  Members gave chase, and with the assistance of AIR1, the vehicle was seen to stop in the area of Chudley Street and Tyndall Avenue.  All four suspects were arrested without incident after a brief foot pursuit.  A portion of the merchandise stolen in the February 12th incident was recovered.
 
Members of the District 3 Crime Unit continued with the investigation.
 
Tyson Shane ANDERSON (18), Hank Everett ROSS (18) and two male youths, 15 & 16 years, all of Winnipeg have been charged with several offences including Robbery, Theft and breaches of court orders for their alleged involvement.
 
All were detained in custody.
