Winnipeg Police Service News Release

ROBBERY- UPDATE ARREST                 C10-268665
As previously released, on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 700 block of Aberdeen Avenue for a report of a male who was in possession of firearm.
 
The investigation has revealed that a male youth approached a 51 year old male victim on the street in the 600 block of Aberdeen Avenue and attempted to rob him of his property.  During this robbery, the suspect male pointed the firearm in the victim's direction.  The male victim refused and turned and walked away from the suspect. 
 
As the victim was walking away, he heard a clicking sound and turned to observe the male suspect loading the firearm.  The victim immediately fled from the suspect, at which time a shot was allegedly fired by the suspect in the victim's direction.  The victim was not injured and the male suspect fled the area.
 
At approximately 1:10 p.m., as a result of the quick response by numerous police units, the suspect male was located and arrested in the area.
 
Further investigation by officers resulted in the seizure of a loaded firearm.
 
A 13 year old male of Winnipeg has been detained in custody and is facing the following charges:
 
-          Robbery with Firearm
-          Point Firearm
-          Discharge Firearm with Intent to Wound, Maim, Disfigure
-          Disguise with Intent
-          Fail to Comply with Undertaking
-          Fail to Comply with sentence
-          As well as multiple firearms related offences
 
  
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- UPDATE ARREST   C10-268486
As previously released, on November 24th, 2010 at approximately 5:00 a.m. a lone male suspect armed with a knife attended to a convenience store within the 100 block of Marion Street where he proceeded to rob a 35 year old male clerk. 
 
The suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the store. 
 
Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members, along with the Canine Unit attended to the scene.  The Canine Unit immediately began tracking and successfully located a residence within the 100 block of Eugenie Street, which the suspect had fled to. 
 
A number of individuals had been taken into custody.  As a result of an investigation by members of the Major Crimes Unit a suspect male has been arrested in connection with the above noted commercial robbery. This male is also alleged to be responsible for the following commercial robberies:
 
- November 8th, 2010 at approximately 11:25 a.m. a business in the 200 block of St Mary's Road. 
 
- November 9th, 2010 at approximately 3:40 a.m., a convenience store in the 1st 100 block of Osborne Street. 
 
- November 12th, 2010 at approximately 4:00 a.m., a convenience store in the 100 block of Marion Street. 
 
In each of these robberies, various amounts of cash and cigarettes were obtained and no one sustained any injuries.
 
Jason Benjamin WOODWARD, 20 years of Winnipeg is facing 4 counts of Robbery with a Weapon as well as 4 counts of Disguise with Intent.  He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
 
 
HISTORICAL SEXUAL ASSAULT- ARREST      R10-61078
In July 2010, the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit entered into an investigation regarding a historical sexual assault.  
 
On November 24th, 2010 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Kenneth William STORHEIM, 64 years, turned himself into police and was arrested on the strength of a warrant.  He has been charged with two counts of Sexual Assault.
 
As a publication ban is in effect, no further information will be provided to protect the identities of the victim(s) involved. 
 
STORHEIM has been released on a Recognizance with a cash surety to appear in court at a later date.
