Officer Involved Shooting: C17-205597
The Winnipeg Police Service responded to a series of incidents overnight that investigators have linked to the same suspect. The last incident ended in a confrontation with an adult male suspect in the 400 block of Alfred Avenue where an officer involved shooting occurred.
   
On September 12, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 800 block of Pritchard Avenue for a report of an adult female who had been assaulted by a male armed with a firearm. The female was not seriously injured.
   
At approximately 11:45 p.m., an adult female had been pulling into her garage in the 1000 block of Pritchard Avenue when a male armed with a firearm carjacked her vehicle. The female was not physically injured.
   
On September 13, 2017, at approximately 12:00 a.m., a business in the 1400 block of Notre Dame Avenue was robbed by a male armed with a firearm. There were no injuries.
   
At approximately 12:20 a.m., the stolen vehicle was located in the 300 block of Blake Street. However, the suspect fled the area in the vehicle.
   
AIR1 was able to track the vehicle to the 400 block of Alfred Avenue and direct members of the Tactical Support Team to the area.
   
At approximately 12:50 a.m., police were involved in a confrontation with a suspect which resulted in an officer involved shooting.
   
The suspect, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg, was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
   
This investigation falls under the mandate of the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba. Any further inquiries should be directed to the IIU.
