Thursday, April 9, 2015 Update Fire Investigation Arrests C15-68347 As previously released -On April 6, 2015 at approximately 6:45 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire at a vacant building located at 44 Hargrave Street. As a result of the fire, a neighbouring building was evacuated which also sustained damage. Witnesses indicated that several youth were observed fleeing the area suggesting the fire was deliberately set. The suspects were described as being between 14-15-years-of-age. Damage is estimated at $1,000,000.00. Members of the WPS Arson Unit were notified and continued to investigate. As a result of the investigation and the support of the public, five youth have been identified and arrested due to their alleged involvement. The investigation has revealed that the youth entered the apartment building and deliberately set the fire. Two 13-year-old males, a 12-year-old female, 14-year-old female and 15-year-old female are facing the following charges: Arson causing damage to property Arson with disregard for human life Break, enter and commit arson Possession of incendiary material They were released on a promise to appear. Members of the WPS Arson Unit would like to thank the public and media for their assistance. Commercial Break and Enter Investigations Arrests C15-69344 During the past two weeks, numerous commercial break-ins have occurred at various locations throughout the city. Businesses were targeted afterhours at which time suspects would force entry and remove cash and other merchandise. On April 8, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m., General Patrol members observed two suspicious males on foot while in the area of Ness Avenue and Mount Royal Street. The suspect entered a vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle collided with several parked vehicles in the area of Portage Avenue and Moorgate Street. They proceeded to flee on foot but were apprehended a short distance away. The investigation continued by members of the West and East District Crime Units. Trevor Kyle KLATT, 38-years-old and Desalege KEBEDE, 50-years-old both of Winnipeg have been charged with the following due to their alleged involvement: Break, Enter and Theft Place x 23 The types of business targeted during this crime spree mostly include, restaurants and salons. KLATT has also been charged with: Driving while Ability Impaired, Driving while Disqualified and Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample. Both males were remanded into custody.
