Public Advisory – Vehicle Break-In Investigations
During the past month, the Winnipeg Police Service has noted a significant increase in reports associated to vehicle break-ins occurring in the River Heights area of the city.

Over 80 reports have been received as a result of parked vehicles being broken into. These incidents can be described as follows:

  • Vehicle left unlocked and property removed
  • Locked vehicles having windows smashed/rummaged through/property removed
  • On many occasions, valuables were left in plain view

As members of the West District Crime Unit continue to investigate these incidents, we are encouraging citizens city-wide to be diligent regarding property related crime.

Small steps can have a big impact on curtailing these crimes. Here are some tips to help discourage criminals:

  • Always try to park in well-lighted and busy areas. This is important for both your personal safety and the protection of your vehicle and its contents.

  • All doors should be locked and the windows closed. Never leave the motor running or the key in the ignition, as this is an open invitation to a car thief.

  • Do not leave packages or property in plain view inside your vehicle. Keep the vehicle clean and empty of personal items that may attract thieves.

The Winnipeg Police Service encourages citizens to report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information regarding suspect(s) in relation to these recent vehicle break-ins in the River Heights area is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2877 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
