ATTEMPT MURDER ARREST UPDATE – HOMICIDE – C14-28904
As previously released, on February 8, 2014 shortly before midnight emergency personnel were dispatched for the report of a male stabbed in the 1st 100 block of Noble Avenue.
 
Upon arrival, a 19 year old male was found to be suffering several stab wounds to the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition.
 
A 19 year old male was arrested at the scene.
 
Members of the Major Crime Unit continued with the investigation.
 
Investigation had revealed that the accused, along with the victim and another person had been socializing when a verbal argument between the accused and victim occurred.  This resulted in the accused being evicted from the residence.  Minutes later the accused returned to get his coat and when allowed entry the argument resumed and escalated to the point where the accused armed him-self with a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the upper body.
 
On February 11, 2014 the victim succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Marcus Neil BLACKSMITH 19 years of Winnipeg.
 
Jordan Thomas MUNROE of Winnipeg previously charged with Attempt Murder and Aggravated Assault has now been charged with 2nd Degree Murder.
 
He is detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
MALE SHOT UPDATE – ARRESTS - C13-226075
As previously released, on November 2, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Patrol members had been dispatched to the 700 block of Simcoe Street regarding a report(s) that a male had been shot.

Attending members located a 42 year old male with injuries consistent with being shot lying on the boulevard on the west side of the street, just south of Wellington Avenue.
 
The victim was transported from the scene in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
 
The investigation continued by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
 
It was learned that the female suspect and the victim had been selling crack cocaine and had become involved in a verbal dispute.  The suspect eventually called for help and several persons attended to assist, one armed with a firearm.  The armed suspect then shot the victim after which all parties fled the residence.
 
On November 24, 2013 the female suspect was arrested by District 3 Uniform members on an unrelated matter.  She was later turned over to investigators.
 
Dana Lynn GUNN 26 years of Winnipeg was charged with Aggravated Assault and several firearm related offences for her alleged involvement and was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
On February 12, 2014 members of the Major Crime Unit arrested a second suspect.
 
Travis Terry Lee THAYER 21 years of Winnipeg was arrested at the Provincial Remand Centre where he was being detained on an unrelated matter.  For his alleged involvement, THAYER has been charged with the following offences:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder Using a Firearm
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

He was returned to the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
The investigation is on-going.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL BREAK & ENTER ARRESTS – C14-21090
Between May 1, 2013 & February 7, 2014 the Winnipeg Police Service became aware of several residential break & enters in and around the city as well as rural Manitoba.  They include:

  • 1st 100 block of Winnipeg Street (Emerson, Mb) May 1st 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Willmington Drive (Winnipeg) Sept 9th 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Willowwood Road (Winnipeg) Oct 21st 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Willow Creek Road (Morden, Mb) Nov 26th 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Endcliffe Way (Winnipeg) Nov 29th 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Marshall Pl (Steinbach, Mb) Dec 3rd 2013
  • 1st 100 block of Bearing Avenue (Winnipeg) Jan 13th 2014
  • 1300 block of Leila Avenue (Winnipeg) Dec 29th 2014
  • 1st 100 block of Woodridge Bay (Morden, Mb) Feb 7th 2014

On Jan 21, 2014 a resident in the 1st 100 block of William Marshall Way in Winnipeg observed an unknown male (LAMBERT) steal a package that had been delivered and left at her door.
 
In all the above noted incidents the same pick-up truck was seen at the scene. 
 
Members of the District 3 Crime Unit investigated and suspects were identified.
 
On Feb 12, 2014, a residence in the 300 block of Boyne Avenue, Morris, Mb was broken into and property stolen.
 
Members of the District 3 Crime Unit were in the area and the suspects were arrested without incident. 
 
All stolen property from the residence was recovered as well as several other stolen items from other break-ins.

Tyler Joshua WILLIAMS 20 years & Allen Emile LAMBERT 52 years, both from Winnipeg have been charged with numerous property related offences for their alleged involvement.
 
Both were detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
STOLEN VEHICLE ARRESTS – C14-31827
On the evening of February 12, 2014 the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a vehicle that had been stolen in the area Selkirk Avenue and King Street.
 
Shortly after 10:00 p.m. uniform members observed the stolen vehicle being driven in the 700 block of Inkster Avenue.  The vehicle was stopped and the two occupants taken into custody without incident.
 
A sawed off shot gun was located inside the vehicle.
 
Julius Rey HARPER 19 years and Eric Dean MURDOCK 26 years, both from Winnipeg have been charged with property and firearm related offences for their alleged involvement.
 
Both were detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
 
 
MARIHUANA GROW OPERATION ARRESTS – R13-75894
After a lengthy investigation which began in the fall of 2013, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Marihuana Grow Operation Unit obtained a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant for a residence in the 200 block of Alfred Avenue.
 
On February 12, 2014 with the assistance of uniform members and the Tactical Support Team the warrant was executed.  Two persons within the residence were arrested without incident.
 
The following was seized:

  • 221 Marihuana plants with an estimated street value of $251,940.00
  • 34 pounds of dry marihuana with an estimated street value of $85,000.00
  • Grow operation equipment valued at $7,500.00
  • $2,800.00 in Canadian currency

For their alleged involvement, a 31 year old female and 50 year old male, both of Winnipeg are facing charges of Produce a Scheduled Substance - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA), Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – CANNIBIS (MARIHUANA) & Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime.
 
Both were released via Promises to Appear.
