Crime Prevention Tip

An old trend is back in Winnipeg!

Drivers/Car Owners beware as criminals are out for the Catalytic Converter in your vehicles.

    What is a Catalytic Converter?

It is part of your vehicle's exhaust system and is located between the engine and the muffler. It is usually located on the passenger side.

How do I know its missing?

You will notice a loud rumbling or roaring sound as soon as you turn on the engine if your catalytic converter is missing. It gets louder as you step on the gas.

The Catalytic Converters are popular targets by thieves who want to make a quick $150-$400. This is a crime of opportunity. Thieves can quickly reach under your vehicle and cut off the catalytic converter and be on their way in less than one minute.

Tips for preventing catalytic converter theft

  • Park in busy well-lit areas of any parking lot
  • If you have a personal garage, keep your car in the garage with the door closed when the vehicle is not in use
  • Ensure your vehicle has a good/functioning anti-theft alarm
  • Engrave your VIN or license plate number into the converter to make it traceable
  • Contact the non-emergency line 986-6222 if you become a victim

Have a great week ahead.
