Thursday, December 11, 2014       Update - Homicide Investigation – C14-101944 As previously released, on May 18, 2014 at approximately 5:30 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue for the report of a male having been assaulted.   Upon arrival a male suffering serious injury was located and transported to hospital in critical condition.   The investigation has revealed that the victim and a female were involved in a domestic situation which was witnessed by several bystanders in the immediate area. One of the bystanders, concerned about the victim's actions and thus the safety of the female, approached the two in an effort to intervene.  As a result, the bystander became involved in a physical altercation with the victim. During this altercation the victim was struck, resulting in his falling to the ground.   On May 23, 2014 the victim succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Marlon Dean LARONDE (HART), 33 years-old of Winnipeg.   Members of the Homicide Unit continued with the investigation.   On May 27, 2014 investigators arrested a 45 year-old male. The male was released and a Senior Crown Attorney was consulted regarding criminal charges.   After a thorough review, the Crown has advised that no charges will be laid against the 45 year-old male.     High Risk Sex Offender Arrest – R14-89950 On December 9, 2014 members of the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit became involved in an investigation which led them to a residence in the North End area Winnipeg.   Investigators determined that a male subject to several conditions of a Probation Order allegedly breached his curfew, consumed alcohol and attended to a licensed premise.     As a result, on December 10, 2014, Ernest Joseph LAQUETTE, 56 years-old of Winnipeg was arrested in the downtown area and charged with the following:   Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 3   He was remanded into custody.     Public Advisory – Vehicle Theft Prevention The Winnipeg Police Service would like motorists to be mindful when leaving their running vehicles unattended, especially during cold winter conditions. Reports of stolen vehicles have been received as a result of those vehicles being left unattended while they were warming up.
