Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

 

  Wednesday, March 4, 2012 

 
ASSAULT CAUSE BODILY HARM – ARREST C12-59858
On March 3, 2012, at approximately 12:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency personnel responded to a mall located in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue regarding an assault incident.
 
The investigation has revealed that a 24 year old male suspect confronted a 73 year old male victim while walking in mall. The suspect approached the victim from behind and proceeded to assault him in a completely unprovoked attack. Moments later, the suspect assaulted the victim on a second occasion in a similar fashion.
 
Due to the efforts of Mall Security, the suspect was held until police arrival.
 
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained injuries.
 
Matthew Dean OTTERTAIL, 24 years has been charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and detained.
 
 
GROW OPERATION – ARRESTS R12-29050
On March 3, 2012, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit, with the assistance of the Vice Unit, Tactical Support Team and General Patrol members completed an investigation involving multiple marihuana grow operations.
 
Between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., officers executed Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrants at three separate locations within the City of Winnipeg.
 
As a result, the following was located and seized:
 
600 block of Mountain Avenue
51 Marihuana Plants – estimated street value $57,000.00
2lbs. Marihuana – estimated street value $4,000.00
      Grow Operation Equipment – valued at $8,000.00
      Cash - $10,000.00
  
200 block of George Marshall Way
755 Marihuana Plants – estimated street value $845,600.00
Grow Operation Equipment – valued at $10,000.00
Cash - $3820.00
 
300 block of Laura Street
406 Marihuana Plants – estimated street value $454,720.00
Grow Operation Equipment – valued at $5,000.00
 
A 47 year old male, 28 year old male and a 21 year old female are facing numerous drug related charges.
 
They were released on a Promise to Appear.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  April 3rd, 2012

 
 
FIRE INVESTIGATION                             C12-59676
On April 3rd, 2012 shortly before 5:15 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service members and emergency services responders attended to a residence within the 700 block of Home Street for the report of a working fire. 
 
Upon arrival, the front of the residence was observed to be engulfed in flames.
 
The occupants were removed from the residence. An adult female was transported to the hospital in critical condition, while an adult male was transported in unstable condition.  Three other individuals were also transported to the hospital in stable condition. 
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force Unit.  At this time a cause of the fire has yet to be determined.  
 
The adult female has since been upgraded to unstable condition and the adult male was upgraded to stable condition.
 
 
BREAK AND ENTER- ARREST                              C12-50965
Between March 15th, 2012 and March 21st, 2012 Winnipeg Police Service East District members received reports of thefts from vehicles and the subsequent fraudulent use of stolen credit cards stemming from residential break and enters that had occurred at the following locations: 
 
-       1st 100 block of Harding Cresent
-       700 block of Aldgate Road
-       1st 100 block of Boone Place
 
During these instances, vehicles that were parked outside were entered and the garage door openers located inside these vehicles were utilized to open the attached garages.  Once inside the garages various property including purses, money and identification was stolen. 
 
As a result of the continued investigation by East District Crime Unit detectives a suspect male was identified.  It is believed that the same suspect male is responsible for an additional theft incident that had occurred on March 14th, 2012 from a business within the 300 block St. Mary's Road.
 
On April 2nd, 2012 a suspect male was located and arrested within the 400 block of Elgin Avenue. 
 
Jason Cory IVERSON, 31 years of Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences for his alleged involvement in these incidents: 
 
-       Break and enter x 3
-       Possession of property obtained by crime
-       Possess- use credit card data x 4
 
IVERSON has been detained in custody.
 
 
 
 
The Winnipeg Police Service would like to alert the citizens of Winnipeg that there has been increase in the number of break and enters incidents throughout the City of Winnipeg as a result of garage door openers that have been left within unsecured vehicles.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

  Monday, April 2nd, 2012

 

SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION          C12- 58431
 On April 1st, 2012 just before 7:30 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 16 members responded to a residence within the 500 block of Warsaw Avenue for a report of a residential break-in and attempt sexual assault that had occurred at approximately 20 minutes earlier. 

Upon arrival officers met with the 30 year old female victim who was not injured as a result of the incident. 

Officers learned that the victim, who was asleep at the time, woke up and observed a male in her room. The victim began to shout at the suspect and he left the suite.  

He was last seen riding away on a men's mountain bike.  

The suspect is described as:

-       Male, 5'9"- 5'10" tall, with a muscular build and very short hair. He was wearing a light coloured short sleeved shirt.
 
This investigation is continuing by detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or the suspect is asked to contact 204-986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION                     C12-57700
As previously released, on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 shortly after 10:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police Service uniform members were dispatched to the rear of an apartment complex located within the 700 block of Notre Dame Avenue for a report of suspicious circumstances.
 
Upon arrival, officers located evidence near a garbage bin. The scene was secured and the body of a deceased adult female was recovered.    
 
The victim has been identified as Carolyn Marie SINCLAIR, 25 years of Winnipeg.
 
At this stage in the investigation it is believed SINCLAIR had been at location for a lengthy period of time. The cause of death will not be released at this time.                  
 
On December 30th, 2011, SINCLAIR was reported as a missing person. The Winnipeg Police Service had requested the public's assistance in locating SINCLAIR and indicated that she was known to frequent the West End areas of the city.
 
An extensive investigation was conducted by members of the Missing Persons Unit where numerous individuals were interviewed. As a result of this investigation officers can acknowledge that SINCLAIR led a high-risk lifestyle.
 


A photo of SINCLAIR is being released in hopes that someone will have information that may assist in this investigation.   SINCLAIR last had contact with her family members on December 13th, 2011.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting that anyone who may have information regarding Carolyn SINCLAIR's whereabouts or activities since mid- December 2011 is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).   
 

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION                                   C12-58014
As previously released, on March 31st, 2012 at approximately 7:40 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members and emergency services responders were dispatched to an area within the 200 block of Balmoral Street for a report of male found lying in a yard.
 
Upon arrival, a deceased adult male was located.
 
The victim has been identified as Johnathen James Felix, 21 years of Winnipeg.
 
A cause of death has yet to be determined however investigators believe that the victim had sustained an injury consistent with a gunshot wound.    
At this stage in the investigation homicide investigators have not ruled out any drug or gang connections associated to this incident.

On Friday, March 30th, 2012 the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public's assistance in locating missing siblings, Willow SIDOTI and Nicholas SIDOTI.
 
Both siblings have been safely located.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release

 

   April 1st, 2012

 
STABBING INVESTIGATION- ARREST   C12-58332
On April 1st, 2012 at approximately 2:45 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 11 members responded to a gas station parking lot within the 800 block of Ellice Avenue for a report of a male that had been stabbed.
 
Upon arrival officers located a 42 year old male who had sustained stab wounds to his upper body.  Paramedics attended and transported the male to the hospital in critical condition.
 
Attending members were alerted that the suspect male had just exited a nearby convenience store. Upon observing officers the suspect immediately fled on foot but was taken into custody by officers after a brief foot chase.   
 
As a result of the continued investigation by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit, a 19 year old male has been charged with robbery with violence, aggravated assault and failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking for his alleged involvement in this incident. 
 
Awasis John BEARDY, 19 years of Garden Hill, Manitoba has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

The body of a deceased adult female has been recovered.    
 
This investigation is in the early stages. Further information is expected to be released as it becomes available.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION                                   C12-58014

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARREST                 C12-57402
As previously released, on March 30th, 2012 shortly before 11:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members were dispatched to a restaurant within the 1100 block of Main Street for a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred.
 
Upon arrival officers learned that a suspect male had entered the restaurant and attended to the till area where he demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash. 
 
The suspect fled and police were notified. 
 
A number of units including a canine unit attended to the area. At approximately 11:45 p.m. Division 13 uniform members observed a male matching the description of robbery suspect near the intersection of Arlington Street and Mountain Avenue.  This male was arrested and taken into custody without incident.     
 
As a result of the continued investigation led by detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, the same suspect male is believed to be responsible for the following three robberies:
 
-       March 26th, 2012 at approximately 7:30 p.m. a restaurant in the 1400 block of Main Street
-       March 27th, 2012 at approximately 8:30 p.m. a restaurant in the 1100 block of Main Street
-       March 28th, 2012 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a restaurant in the 1000 block of Notre Dame Avenue
 
During these robberies an undisclosed amount of money was demanded and received. There were no reported injuries. 
 
John Raven WARD, 28 years of Winnipeg is facing four counts of both robbery and disguise with intent as well as one count of breach of probation for his alleged involvement in these incidents. 
 
WARD has been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre. 
 
COMMERICIAL ROBBERY                                 C12-57812
On March 31st, 2012 just before 2:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police Service members received a report of a commercial robbery that had just occurred at a convenience store within the 400 block of Sargent Avenue by two suspects.   
 
Upon arrival officers located a 57 year old male with minor injuries to his upper body. 
 
The investigation has revealed that a male suspect and a female suspect, armed with a knife, entered the business demanded cash.  Witnesses, including the injured male, had entered the store and observed the robbery.  They confronted the suspects and attempted to hold them for police.  During the confrontation the 57 year old male sustained a small cut as the suspects fled the scene. 
 
A number of police units searched the area for the suspects however this met with negative results. 
 
The suspects, who had their faces concealed, are described as:
  
Suspect #1- Female with darker skin, approximately 20 years of age, 5'5" tall with a slim build, wearing eye glasses, a hoodie and black pants.
 
Suspect #2- Male, approximately 25 years, 6'0" tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black jacket with the hood up, dark jeans.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident or the suspects is asked to call 204-986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
