Sexual Assaults Investigation: C17-261631
On November 20, 2017, between 7:10 a.m. and 8:45 a.m., three female victims were arriving for work in the 700 block of William Avenue when they were approached by a lone male who sexually assaulted them by means of groping.
In each case, the suspect fled on foot after making contact with the victims. The incidents are believed to have occurred at McGee Street and Notre Dame Avenue, Victor Street and Notre Dame Avenue and near the Tecumseh Street Parkade.
The suspect is described as a male in his 20's with a thin build and was wearing an "army green" hoodie that was pulled up with khaki pants and dark gloves.
This investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with further information regarding this investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
Stolen Vehicle Arrest: C17-262045
On November 20, 2017, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Division 11 officers were conducting a proactive patrol when they observed a stolen car being driven in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.
As they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the adult male driver exited the car and fled on foot. Members of the K9 unit attended and tracked the suspect to the rear of a residence in the 400 block of Alexander Avenue where he was found hiding under a porch concealed under garbage and snow.
The stolen vehicle was determined to have been stolen from the 700 block of William Avenue on November 14th.
Thomas Jeremy Spence, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
He was also found to be the subject of two outstanding arrest warrants and was detained in custody.
Public Assistance Requested Update/Arrested: Leslie Reid Contois
The Winnipeg Police Service previously requested the public's assistance in locating Leslie Reid Contois, a 42-year-old male of Winnipeg in August 2017.
Leslie was wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the City of Winnipeg that occurred on July 15, 2017.
He was also identified as a suspect for a serious arson at an apartment building in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street that occurred on July 28, 2017, As a result of the fire, six individuals were transported to hospital and later released. Damages to the building were estimated at approximately $1,000,000.
On November 20, 2017, at approximately 12:45 a.m., District 3 General Patrol members responded to the report of a disturbance at an apartment building in the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located Contois and took him into custody. Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
In addition to the sexual assault and arson, Contois was determined to be responsible for damaging the window of a suite in the 100 block of Evanson Street on September 27, 2017.
Contois has been charged with:
- Sexual Assault with a Weapon
- Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle Another Person
- Attempt Murder (x2)
- Arson with Disregard for Human Life
- Poss of Incendiary Material
- Forcible Confinement
- Unlawfully Cause Bodily Harm (x6)
- Assault with a Weapon
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm (x2)
- Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice (x18)
- Breach of Recognizance (x6)
He was detained in custody.
