Crime Prevention Tip

It is that time of year when the young and the young at heart, will be out celebrating Halloween.  Although this is a fun and mysterious time of the season, the Winnipeg Police Service has some helpful safety reminders.  These are as follows:
COSTUME SAFETY

-Costumes should be bright in colour, or have reflective material attached (allowing for the individual to be seen easier)
-Costumes are recommended to be looser fitting and allow for seasonal clothing to be worn underneath (warmth)
-Confirm that there is the least amount of flammable material in costumes as possible
WHILE OUT TRICK OR TREATING:
-Youngsters should travel in groups as much as possible
-Youngsters should be accompanied by a trusted adult while out trick or treating.
-Trick or Treaters should have a planned route prior to heading out for loot
-Stick to well-lit pre-planned areas
-DO NOT enter homes that are visited for trick or treating
-Be mindful of  Traffic (look both ways before crossing the street)
-Motorists are strongly urged to be mindful and extra cautious when driving through residential areas
CANDY:
-DO NOT consume any Halloween candy prior to a thorough examination in a well-lit area by an adult
-Any Candies that appear to have been tampered with should be reported to your local police station (Station Duty) during hours of operation
-Refrain from consuming any items that appear to be homemade
.
