Crime Prevention Tip

Now that fall is here, the citizens of Winnipeg and the surrounding areas will be experiencing a decrease in daylight hours.  Studies and statistics have revealed that there is a definite link between light levels and criminal activity.

The following are a few helpful suggestions to "shed some light" on attempting to reduce crime through environmental adjustment.

1)  Inspect the exterior areas around your residence (after daylight hours) and determine where there are low / no light areas.  Install motion detector light fixtures in these areas.
2)  Trim bushes, hedges and foliage that may diminish lighting cast by street lights in the area
3) Place lamps on timers (to turn on and off) throughout the living spaces in your residence.
