Fatal Fire Now Homicide Investigation – C16-140291
As previously released, on July 7, 2016, at approximately 1:40 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 100 block of Austin Street North for a working fire in a multi-family residence.

Several people were transported to hospital as a result of the fire. Two of the victims were pronounced deceased.

The victims are a female, 51-years and a male, 61-years. Further information will be released as it becomes available.

At this stage of the investigation evidence points to the fire being deliberately set.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).


Historical Sexual Assault Investigation – Arrest –
C16-104521

During the summer of 2002 a male had regular contact with a young child.  The victim was sexually assaulted on numerous occasions during this period of time.

On June 23, 2106 the victim reported these occurrences to police. Members of the Sex Crimes Unit initiated an investigation.

On July 6, 2016 detectives arrested a 54-year-old male from Winnipeg and charged him with the following offences;

- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Exploitation
- Sexual Interference

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear.

Sexual Exploitation – Arrest – R16-47339
The Winnipeg Police Service Counter Exploitation Unit, with the assistance of general patrol, Tactical Support Team and the Missing Persons Unit, have arrested a 53-year-old male and charged him with:

- Sexual Assault
 - Sexual Interference
- Procuring a Person Under 18 Years of Age to Provide
Sexual Services
- Possess Marihuana for the Purpose of Trafficking


Between March 1, 2016 and July 1, 2016 the accused would communicate with the victim, a 14-year-old female, through social media. The victim was transported to a residence in the 400 block of Furby Street. Sex was procured from victim in exchange for a combination of cash, prescription drugs, marihuana and alcohol.

The victim made contact with the Counter Exploitation Unit on July 5, 2016 and an investigation was initiated.

Eric GUNDMANDSON of Winnipeg has been remanded in custody.
