Friday, October 9, 2015 Police Service Dog Riley Passes Away It is with profound sadness the Winnipeg Police K9 Unit announces the passing of a Canine member. On Tuesday, October 6, 2015 Police Service Dog Riley badge number #52 lost a valiant battle with cancer. Riley was a product of our in house breeding program and was raised by his partner, Constable Jeff Katcher from 12 weeks of age. They completed their training and began working as a team in September 2012. Riley was a general patrol dog, trained in narcotic detection as well as being assigned to the Tactical Support Team. He was 5 years old at the time of his passing. Update - Homicide Investigation Arrest C15-212127 As previously released - On October 8, 2015 at 8:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 400 block of Flora Avenue for the report of an injured person. An adult female, suffering serious injury, was located and transported to hospital in critical condition. The victim, Selena Rose KEEPER, 20-years-old of Winnipeg was later pronounced deceased The investigation has revealed that a couple, both 20-years of age, attended to a residence located in the 400 block of Flora Avenue. While there, the male began assaulting the female repeatedly in the upper body causing serious injuries. Witnesses attempted to intervene however the assault continued and the victim was eventually left outside unresponsive. Patrol members located and arrested the suspect shortly after 1:00 p.m., while in the area of the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. Ray William EVERETT, 20-years-old of Winnipeg has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder due to his alleged involvement. He was remanded into custody. Notifications have been made, however results of an autopsy are pending. Motor Vehicle Collision C15-212702 On October 9, 2015, at approximately 2:05 a.m., members of the West District Station responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Grant Avenue and Chalfont Road. It has been determined that street sweepers were in the area when one of them became immobile after sustaining a hydraulic leak. A second sweeper parked behind the damaged sweeper while repair work was underway. Strobe lights were activated for motorists travelling in the area. A Jeep Cherokee was travelling eastbound on Grant Avenue when the driver rear ended the street sweepers and lost control of his vehicle. The 25-year-old male driver sustained multiple upper and lower body injuries. He is in stable condition.
