Robbery - Arrest: C18-699
On January 1, 2018 at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a taxi driver having a fare dispute with a passenger in the area of Burrows Avenue and Buller Street. The driver reported that his lone male passenger produced a knife, assaulted him by punching him numerous times and robbed him of his personal money.
   
As a result, the driver suffered from minor facial injuries.
   
At approximately 11:40 p.m., the same suspect forced entry into two different garages in the 1200 block of Manitoba Avenue. He damaged the window to a vehicle and stole various tools from the first garage. Nothing was stolen from the second.
   
The suspect then entered two vehicles also parked in the 1200 block of Manitoba Avenue, damaging the window to one of them and stealing medication.
   
On January 2, 2018 at approximately 12:10 a.m., General Patrol members located and arrested the suspect male in the area of Shaughnessy Street and Pritchard Avenue.
   
James Albert SUMNER, 18-years-old has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter & Theft
  • Robbery
  • Possess Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5000 X2
  • Break & Enter with Intent
  • Theft Under $5000 

He has been detained in custody.
     
Weapon – Arrest: C18-001166
On January 2, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police general patrol officers arrested a male in relation to a series of firearm incidents that had occurred earlier that evening.
   
At approximately 5:30 p.m., a male was exiting an apartment in the 400 block of Cumberland Avenue when he saw male pointing a handgun at a third, unidentified male. He yelled for the suspect to stop, which prompted the suspect to approach the first male and point the gun at his head and threaten him. The suspect then fled and the victim contacted police.
   
The suspect next went to a parkade where he confronted 3 adults in a vehicle and pointed a gun them. These victims remained in the vehicle and the suspect left on foot.
   
Responding officers confronted the male as he was leaving the parkade. He was disarmed without incident and placed under arrest. Officers seized the handgun and additionally located at 2-foot machete concealed in his jacket. The suspect made threats to kill both officers at the time of his arrest.
   
Kyle Joseph HOULE, 33, has been charged with:
   - Point Firearm x 3
   - Utter Threats x 3
   - Posses Weapon
   - Carry Concealed Weapon
   - Possess Identity Document
   
  He was detained in custody.
