Fermor Avenue Bridge over Seine River Rehabilitation and Roadworks

The Fermor Avenue Bridge Project over Seine River Rehabilitation and Roadworks is a study the City of Winnipeg is undertaking. This study will assess the active transportation needs in the area and provide an appropriate connection of the Niakwa Trail to the north sidewalk of the Fermor Avenue Bridge. A grade-separated pedestrian crossing of Fermor Avenue will also be provided to link the Niakwa Trail to Niakwa Road, and extend a new active transportation facility south along Pebble Beach Road to Willowlake Crescent and the Southdale Community Centre.

For more information, visit City of Winnipeg – Fermor Avenue Bridge Study and stay tuned for project updates and information on in-person engagement events.

Towards a Winnipeg Food Policy Council Engagement Reminder

There is still time to provide feedback on the potential creation of a City of Winnipeg Food Council. Citizens are invited to provide their feedback via an information table at Manyfest during Ciclovia which is happening along Broadway Avenue by the Farmers' Market, this Sunday September 11, 2016.

City staff from the Urban Planning Division will be on hand at Ciclovia to discuss the feedback received to date and to walk citizens through the process for creating a food council. City staff will also be available to review the potential mandate of the food council and to collect additional input from those who wish to leave their feedback.

For those that cannot attend Ciclovia at Manyfest, but have ideas regarding the potential creation of a Food Policy Council, send an email to speakup@Winnipeg.ca to give us your feedback. Feedback should be sent no later than September 30, 2016.

For more information, visit City of Winnipeg – Towards a Food Policy Council.

Lyndale Drive Retaining Wall Study Update

The study is now complete. After careful consideration of the public feedback, together with engineering requirements and financial considerations, a recommended design has been determined. The recommended design incorporates design elements from both Options 1 and 2 originally presented at the Open House held on May 12, 2016; requiring a 0.9 m northward shift in the alignment of Lyndale Drive (between Monck Avenue and Gauvin Street), while at the same time featuring a 2.6 m wide pedestrian sidewalk, and a 3.0 m wide gravel trail on the lower riverbank.

Detailed design will proceed through the Fall of 2016. Subject to Council approval of project funding, construction is anticipated to begin in December 2016 and proceed through to the summer of 2017. The project team thanks the community of Norwood and all the participants who provided valuable feedback during the study. A detailed summary of the public engagement process is available in the Public Engagement Report.
