Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Pedestrian –
C15-169117

On August 13, 2015, just after 5:00 p.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 300 block of Austin Street North for the report of a pedestrian having being struck by a vehicle.
 
A 41-year-old male was located and transported to hospital in critical condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.  His name will not be released.
 
The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old male of Winnipeg remained at the scene and has been interviewed by police.
 
Initial investigation has revealed that the vehicle had been travelling southbound down the west back lane of Austin Street North when the deceased suddenly fell onto the roadway where he was struck.
 
Alcohol use by the victim is being considered as a factor.
 
No charges have been laid and the investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
Sexual Assault Investigation – C15-169046
On August 13, 2015, the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a sexual assault that had occurred on August 11th.
 
Officers met with the victim who advised that at approximately 8:45 p.m. that day she had been at the intersection of Home Street and Sargent Avenue.  An unknown male grabbed her from behind and dragged her into the east back lane of Home Street where he committed a serious sexual assault upon her.  The male then fled on foot northbound in the lane.
 
The suspect is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, early twenties, 5'11" tall, and 175 pounds.  He was wearing a blue fleece sweater, dark pants and black boots.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
