On June 30, 2014 at approximately 8:30 a.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a female in the Red River near Bishop Grandin Boulevard & River Road.  While in normal conditions the river can be a hazardous place, with the high water levels, fast moving current and additional debris it is especially treacherous at this time.

A member of the East District Community Support Unit was in the area and immediately attended to the river bank.  The female was observed to be standing in the river approximately 12' from shore.  Dispatch was advised and further units were requested.

The officer attempted to engage the female in conversation however she was uncommunicative.  Unsure of her intentions and concerned for her safety, the officer waded out into the river and took hold of the female, bringing her back to shore.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to take this opportunity to thank citizens who take it upon themselves to notify police of these types of incidents and perhaps prevent an unnecessary tragedy.
