New Opportunities for Engagement with the City of Winnipeg Bark for your Park – Downtown Dog Park Open House The City of Winnipeg is exploring options for the creation of a downtown off-leash dog park and we want to hear from you. You're invited to an open house on February 24, 2016 to get an update on the project, see results from the online survey conducted in January, and provide feedback on possible locations for the dog park and potential features. A neighbourhood dog park in downtown Winnipeg will help build stronger community ties by fostering social meet-ups for dogs and people. It will also be an amenity that will encourage downtown living and help make dog ownership in the downtown more accessible. Monday, February 22, 2016             Stolen Vehicle Arrest – C16-35583 On February 22, 2016 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Patrol members observed a stolen Toyota Camry being operated erratically in the area of Bannerman Avenue and Main Street.     Officers followed the vehicle until which time the suspect made efforts to evade police by driving at high speeds and having no regard for public safety.     The driver eventually lost control of the Camry and became involved in a collision in the area of Kimberley Avenue and Gateway Road. Three males were taken into custody, including the 18-year-old male driver. A 15-year-old male passenger fled the scene on foot.     Members of the Canine Unit tracked the outstanding male hiding in the area of the 700 block of Blantyre Avenue.     The 18-year-old male (driver) is facing the following charges:       Theft of Motor Vehicle   Theft Under $5000.00   Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer   Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle   Possession of a Weapon   Possession of Break-in Instruments   HTA – Fail to remain at the scene of an accident & exchange particulars   HTA – Drive without licence or invalid licence     He was released on a promise to appear.     The passengers in the vehicle were not charged.                 Male Shot – C16-36648 On February 22, 2016 at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of shots fired in the area of the 1800 block of Logan Avenue.     An adult male was located with injuries consistent with being shot. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, later upgraded to stable condition.     Members of the Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate. AMOS was last seen in the north end area of Winnipeg on the afternoon of Monday January 4, 2016.     AMOS is described as an Aboriginal female, 5'3" tall, thin build, 120 pounds, long black hair and brown eyes. AMOS was last seen wearing a black jacket with fur on the hood and black leggings.                       Police are concerned for AMOS' well-being. Crime Prevention Tip   SAFETY TIPS WHEN USING PARKADES              There are two types of parkades:           1)    Parkades open to the public with uncontrolled pedestrian access           2)    Parkades with controlled access by the use of electronic swipe cards, etc. (commonly used in apartment blocks and condominiums)           •   When entering or exiting an apartment or condominium parkade always wait for  the door to close. Watch for anyone sneaking in behind you and call police if necessary;     •   Regardless of where you park your vehicle, do not leave anything in your vehicle that could tempt a thief;     •   Always lock your vehicle.   If your vehicle handheld key / remote has an emergency button or horn, keep it ready in your hand to be able to alert anyone around you;   •   Carry your registration and insurance with you.  Do not leave it in the car.  this will protect you against identity theft;         •   Do not leave your electronic swipe card in your vehicle. A thief may steal it and later use it to break in while you are away;         •   Never leave a spare key in your vehicle;         •   Consider using a "club" to secure the steering wheel if you have an older vehicle without adequate anti-theft features;         •   Consider your personal safety. Plan ahead and know what to do if something happens. The best defense against an attack is awareness and action.
