Safe Shopping

Be extra careful with purses and wallets. Carry a purse close to your body and keep wallets in an inside pocket. Store your parcels in the trunk of your vehicle and consider moving your vehicle before re-attending the store.

Donate Wisely

Criminals may try to take advantage of your generosity during the holidays by going door to door, asking for donations. Always ask for proper identification and find out how the funds will be used and consider phoning the charity to check if they're canvassing in your area.

Stay Alert

Always park in well- lit areas. When returning to your vehicle after shopping or a party, have your keys ready. As you approach your car, be aware of your surroundings – look around and into your vehicle before entering it. Lock your doors as soon as you get into your vehicle.

SEXUAL ASSAULT – C12-234838

As previously reported, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at approximately 5:15 p.m. District two general patrol members responded a sexual assault incident which occurred in the area of Ness Avenue and Sturgeon Road.

The thirteen year old victim related that she was walking on the north sidewalk of Ness Avenue at approximately 9:20 a.m. when she was approached from behind by an unknown male on a bicycle. The victim moved over to allow the cyclist to pass at which time the suspect inappropriately touched the victim. The suspect fled the area and the victim was not injured.

The suspect had been described as a: Caucasian male, 60's with scruffy grayish facial hair wearing a bright yellow jacket, dark toque, blue jeans and white boots. He was riding a grey mountain bike.

Further investigation has led investigators to the conclusion that the incident is in fact unfounded.

GROW OPERATION- ARREST - R12-119534

On November 21, 2012, after a lengthy investigation, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Unit, assisted by District 2 Community Support and the Tactical Support Team executed a controlled drug and substance act search warrant at a commercial property located within the 1700 block of St. James Street.

Inside a large marihuana grow-operation was located and an adult male was taken into custody without incident. An adult female was later located and taken into custody. The following has been seized:

- 854 marihuana plants with an estimated street value of $956,000.00

- Approximately $16,000.00 in grow- operation equipment

Fredrick Gordon PETERS of Winnipeg has been released to appear in court at a later date and has been charged with the following:

- Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA) x 2

- Production of controlled substance - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA)

- Possess Proceeds of Crime

Jane PETERS of Winnipeg has been released to appear in court at a later date and has been charged with the following:

- Possessing substance for purposes of trafficking - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA)

- Production of controlled substance - CANNABIS (MARIHUANA)

SEXUAL ASSAULT – C12-236519

On Thursday, November 22, 2012 at approximately 3:00 p.m. the victim was on Transit bus #16 when he was inappropriately touched by the suspect. The victim told the suspect to stop, to which he complied but minutes later again touched the victim. The victim then proceeded to exit the bus, while the suspect remained.

The suspect is described as a: Middle Eastern in appearance, 20-30 years of age, short, skinny build, medium sized nose with rounded end, black beard. He was wearing a striped white and blue long length scarf around his head, neck and face, black leather gloves, jacket green or grey in colour, sky blue pants.

FATAL FIRE UPDATE – C12-236110

As previously released, on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at approximately 2:50 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were patrolling in the area of the Morley Avenue and Nassau Street when the strong smell of acrid smoke was noted. Officers were able to locate a working fire in the 500 block of Hethrington Avenue. Attending officers requested fire personnel and then proceeded to enter the home in an attempt to locate person(s) inside but were forced out due to the intense heat and smoke.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended and located inside an elderly male and fifty eight year old female. Both were transported to hospital in critical condition.

As previously reported the male succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident.

The female has now succumbed to her injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and members of the Arson unit are investigating.

MISSING PERSON – Jasmine PASCAL – R12-120071

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 14 year old female, Jasmine PASCAL.

PASCAL was last seen on November 15, 2012 in the area of Sherbrook Street and William Avenue.

PASCAL is described as Aboriginal, 5'3", 125 pounds, short straight brown hair with a shaved right side and blue/green eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweater and black pants.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers PASCAL to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

Anyone with information regarding PASCAL's whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

FATAL FIRE – C12-236110

On Thursday, November 22, 2012 at approximately 2:50 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were patrolling in the area of the Morley Avenue and Nassau Street when the strong smell of acrid smoke was noted. Officers were able to locate a working fire in the 500 block of Hethrington Avenue. Attending officers requested fire personnel and then proceeded to enter the home in an attempt to locate person(s) inside but were forced out due to the intense heat and smoke.

Members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attended and located inside an elderly male and fifty eight year old female. Both were transported to hospital in critical condition.

The male has since succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and members of the Arson unit are investigating. Damage is estimated to be in excess of $200.000.

2nd ANNUAL GUNS VS HOSES CHARITY HOCKEY GAME

The Winnipeg Police Service Patrolmen Hockey Team will be playing a friendly game of hockey against the Winnipeg Fire Department during the 2nd Annual Guns vs. Hoses Charity Hockey Game on Saturday, November 24th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the MTS Iceplex located at 3969 Portage Avenue with the doors opening at 5:00 p.m. The event is rush seating and members of the public are advised to arrive early to get a seat.

The goal of the event is to raise funds for families suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Muscular Dystrophy.

This event is modeled after a program in New York City where the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department play in a charity hockey match up, and later participate in a "Battle of the Bands" representing Police and Fire personnel. Events like this bring members, their families, friends, and community groups closer together in support of charity.

The following NHLPA Members are scheduled to play and participate at the event; Andrew Ladd, Mark Stuart, Brian Little, and Olli Jokinen.

There will also be post game social event which will be held immediately after the game at the restaurant located at the MTS Iceplex above the arenas.

The contest between Police and Fire is not exclusive to the hockey game as members will also attempt to outperform each other in ticket sales. Tickets are $10.00 per person which will give participants access to both venues.

Tickets are available at the Winnipeg Police Credit Union and at the door.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION - C12-234961

On Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at approximately 6:00 p.m. emergency services responders were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that had occurred in the 2600 block of Pembina Highway.

At this stage in the investigation, officers have learned that a seventy six year old male had crossed the south bound lanes of Pembina Highway in front of the Windsor Plywood Store and was attempting to cross the north bound lanes when he was struck by a north bound vehicle.

This investigation is ongoing by members of the Central Traffic Unit. The victim's name will not be released.

SUSPICIOUS MALE – C12-234763

On Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at approximately 2:00 p.m. Winnipeg Police members were dispatched to the report of a suspicious male.

At approximately 12:00 p.m. a thirteen year old female was walking in the area of Telfer Street and Sargent Avenue at which she was followed for a long distance by an unknown male. At no time was there any contact made between the two.

The suspect is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, 20-30 years of age, 5'10", slim build with short dark hair. He was wearing jeans and a black sweater with the hood up. A large tattoo was visible coming out from under his right sleeve and covering the top of his right hand.
