Robbery – Arrest: C18-88629
On May 1, 2018, at approximately 2:40 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a robbery at a business in the 2500 block of Portage Avenue. It was reported that an adult male approached a female employee and demanded that she open the till. At the same time, the male motioned to his hand in one of his pockets, suggesting that he had a gun. Other staff heard the commotion and began to approach when the suspect fled. The employee was not injured and the suspect did not receive any money.
At approximately 4:30 a.m., the same male attended to a business in the 2100 block of Ness Avenue. He approached two female clerks, produced a knife and demanded money. No money was provided and he fled the business. The victims were not injured.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., the suspect attended to a business in the 1800 block of Ness Avenue. Armed with a knife, he approached a male employee and demanded money. He was provided with money from the cash register and fled on foot. The employee was not injured.
At approximately 4:10 p.m., members of the Major Crimes Unit located and arrested the suspect at an address in the 2400 block of Portage Avenue.
Nolan Ray COUTU, a 37-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Robbery X3
- Possess Weapon X2
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order X8
He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Robbery - Arrest: C18-89369
On May 1, 2018, at approximately 11:35 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to person sprayed with bear spray in the area of Hugo Street and Corydon Avenue. General Patrol officers attended and searched the area. An adult male matching the suspect description was located in the area of Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street.
Officers learned that at approximately 11:30 p.m. an adult male and an adult female were walking in the area of Hugo Street and Corydon Avenue when they were approached by the suspect. He asked the female for a cigarette and after advising that she did not have one, the male became agitated. The suspect began yelling obscenities and following the victims as they walked away. The suspect sprayed bear spray in their direction, making contact with both of them.
A short time later an adult female was outside in the 600 block of Corydon Avenue when she was approached by the suspect who asked if he could buy a cigarette. The suspect was given a cigarette and then offered to sell drugs to the female. When the female declined and tried to walk away, the suspect stood in her way and produced a utility knife from the inside of his jacket sleeve. He held the knife towards her and demanded money. The victim ran away and the suspect gave chase, attempting to spray the victim with bear spray. The victim was able to flag down a passing motorist who contact police.
Dylan Scott SINCLAIR, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Assault with a Weapon X2
- Possess Weapon X2
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized X2
He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Break & Enters – Arrest: C18-60718
An investigation by members of the Winnipeg Police Service's Major Crimes Unit has led to the arrest of a male for various property-related crimes.
On March 21, 2018, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a condominium building in the 300 block of Wellington Crescent was entered and a number of storage lockers were broken into. A bicycle was stolen.
On March 23, 2018, at approximately 4:00 a.m., an apartment building in the 800 block of Wolseley was broken into and several tenant lockers were entered. A suitcase was stolen.
At approximately 4:25 a.m., the same multi-unit condominium in the 300 block of Wellington Crescent was entered again and a number of personal storage locker rooms were broken into.
On March 23, 2018, between 7:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., a residential building in the 100 block of Yale Avenue East was broken into. A number of rooms were rummaged through and items were moved.
Using an underground tunnel, a suspect was able to enter a church in the same 100 block of Yale Avenue East. A shelf was damaged and cash was stolen. The suspect then stole several valuable items from an altar and the sacristy of the church,
At approximately 11:15 p.m., a nearby garage was entered and the suspect stole a pair of gloves and a garage door opener. In the process, the garage door opened and woke the resident who came face-to-face with the suspect inside the church. The suspect pushed the resident and fled. The resident was not physically injured.
On March 29, 2018, between 3:50 a.m. and 7:40 a.m., a condominium building in the 800 block of St. Paul Avenue was broken into and numerous storage lockers were pried open. Several tools were stolen.
At 2:45 p.m., a male attended a Pawn shop in the Daniel Mcintyre area and pawned the tools that had been stolen from the condominium building.
Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with investigations into the incidents, and with the assistance of the Forensic Services Unit, the male was identified as a suspect.
On May 1, 2018, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the Division 11 Community Support Unit attended an apartment building in the 400 block of Maryland Avenue and placed the suspect under arrest.
Joshua Corey Delaurier, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg,has been charged with:
- Break, Enter & Theft - Place (x4)
- Break, Enter & Commit Robbery - Dwelling House
- Break & Enter with Intent - Place
- Theft under $5,000 (x2)
- Possess Goods Obtained by Crime under $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking Given by Officer in Charge (x4)
- Fail to Appear- Promise to Appear (Ident)
He was detained in custody.
