Our Budget, Forward 2015 "Let's talk Priorities, Volume 5"

Our Budget Forward - 2015 Budget

Spending wisely, meeting collective needs, creating the future we want

A big thanks to all of you who participated in Phase 2 "Let's Talk Priorities" of the City of Winnipeg's engagement process for the 2015-17 Operating Budget and the 2015-2020 Capital Budget. This phase of engagement is now officially closed.

We are grateful to all of those who signed in and participated online, attended a Budget Talk, visited our Talk Truck and especially to those who hosted their own conversations to help bring others together for this important discussion.

We have input from hundreds of Winnipeggers and we are now in the process of gathering and analyzing all of your thoughts and ideas. In July we will be sharing the first volume of "What We've Heard", with a second volume following in August. We'll let you know when this information is available.

In November, Phase 3 "Let's Talk Choices" will launch and you will have the opportunity to weigh the pros and cons of different options and provide your thoughts and feedback on specific solutions and choices. After this, final recommendations will be provided to Council in December 2014 for consideration in decision-making on the budgets.

Here's what we've heard from Winnipeggers:

"It was great to hear different views and hear opinions"

"Key to significance will be to see reporting and implementation and response."

"Great opportunity to learn from others in the community."

"Consultation will help us align our priorities as a City. Thank you for this opportunity."

Public Advisory - Winnipeg Police Service

Winnipeg Police Service

Public Advisory- Vehicle Break-ins
Recently, the Winnipeg Police Service has received several reports regarding thefts from vehicles parked in personal driveways. These incidents have occurred throughout the city however, an increase has been noted in the northwest area of Winnipeg.

One of the common things stolen is garage door remotes which the suspect(s) then use to enter the garage/residence and steal further items.

Please consider the following break-in prevention tips:

1. Keep your car visible
Avoid having your vehicle concealed by larger vehicles, fences or foliage; thieves like to work in private.

2. Don't make it easy
Keep windows and sunroofs closed and doors locked. Many thefts from vehicles are as a result of unlocked vehicles.

3. Vehicle alarm?
Don't forget to activate it.

4. Hide your valuables
Many smash-and-grab thieves act on impulse. So keep your stuff out of sight – either with you or in a locked trunk. Don't count on the glove box; thieves know to look there, and they're easy to break into.

And remember; NEVER leave your garage door remote inside your vehicle.
