NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG DROP OFF DAY
On Saturday, May 11, 2013 the Winnipeg Police Service will open their doors to members of the public wishing to dispose of unwanted, expired or unused prescription drugs as part of National Prescription Drug Drop Off Day.

The event is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and is being held in partnership with the Canadian Center on Substance Abuse and Public Safety Canada.

Many citizens have unused and expired prescription medications in their home as their safe disposal can be difficult.  Flushing them down the drain or tossing them in the garbage can be an environmental hazard.

As well, the misuse of prescription drugs has become a crisis in many communities across the country.  Research suggests that approximately 75% of young people who misuse these drugs have obtained them from home.

"Every unused prescription turned in has the potential to save the life of a citizen who may not be fully aware of the dangers of taking medication that has not been prescribed for them," said Chief Devon Clunis of the Winnipeg Police Service.

This coming Saturday drugs can be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at any of our Service Centres.

Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – MALE YOUTH WANTED C13-61411
As previously released- on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 shortly after 4:00 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members along with emergency services responders were dispatched to the 500 block of Langside Street for the report of gunshots.

Upon arrival officers located an adult male and female, both suffering from wounds consistent with having been shot with a firearm. Nigel DIXON, 20 years succumbed to his injuries while the female victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe that the victims were walking in the area when they were approached by the suspect group. The suspects accused the victims of being gang members. The victims denied any gang involvement and walked away to avoid any further confrontation.  While the victims were walking away, it is believed that they were followed by the suspect group.  The victims were then fired upon as they attempted to get away. Injuries to the victims support the fact that they were attempting to flee from the suspect group when they were shot. Police believe that this was a case of mistaken identity as the victims are not affiliated with any gangs.

Investigators have obtained a Court Order authorizing the release of the identity of the youth suspect sought in connection with the homicide.

A Canada-wide warrant for 2nd Degree Murder and Attempt Murder is currently in effect for the arrest of seventeen year old, Anthony MCCLEMENTS.

MCCLEMENTS is described as: Caucasian, 5'9" tall, 150 lbs., short or shaved blonde hair, facial acne, blue eyes tattoos on right forearm "Hustle to Live" and "Live to Hustle" on left forearm.

Information received indicates that MCCLEMENTS may have fled to the Toronto, Calgary, Red Deer or Vancouver area. Local media are requested to share this information with their affiliates in these jurisdictions.

The investigation is continuing by the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit.  Anyone with information pertaining to MCCLEMENTS' whereabouts is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

NOTE: As the Court Order authorizing the release of MCCLEMENTS' identity expires on May 12, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. Media outlets are reminded not to publish his name or photograph after that date.

Thank you for your assistance.
