FIRE – C13-002133
As already reported in the media, on Friday, January 4, 2013 at approximately 7:00 a.m. Emergency Personnel were dispatched to the first 100 block of Grove Street for the report of a working fire.
 
Three people were treated for minor injuries.
 
At this time the fire appears to have been caused by an electrical fault and is not considered suspicious.
 
Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000.00 and contents at $75,000.00.

Please note that it was the female who distracted the employee while the male stole the cash box.

WARRANT ARRESTS – C12-226922
On Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at approximately 2:00 p.m. a male and female attended to a gas bar in the 1100 block of St. Mary's Road.  While the female distracted the clerk, the male stole a Poppy display cash box containing an undisclosed amount of money.
 
Investigation continued by members of the East District Community Support Unit.  The suspects were identified however fled the jurisdiction prior to being located.  Subsequently, warrants were issued for their arrest.
 
On Thursday, January 3, 2013 both accused were located and arrested without incident.
 
Dallas Ian JENSEN, 23 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Theft Under $5,000.00 and released on a Promise to Appear.
 
Averi Anne CAIRNS, 21 years of Winnipeg has been charged with Theft Under $5,000.00 and released on a Promise to Appear.

MISSING PERSON RHONDA EKWALAK R12-135848
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 17 year old female, Rhonda EKWALAK.
 
EKWALAK was last seen around 5:30 p.m. on Dec 26, 2012, in the area of Mayfair Avenue and Main Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
 
EKWALAK is described as Inuit, brown hair, 5'5" tall, and 130Lbs.  She was last seen wearing a black and gold Baby PHAT jacket, a purple hoody, black pants and black runners with a purple Nike symbol on them.  
 

 


The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for EKWALAK's well-being.
 
Anyone with information regarding EKWALAK's whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250. 
 
 
WARRANT ARREST – C13-001513
In 2008 the accused, Ryan Nathan BAILEY, 23 years was sentenced to 4 years & 9 months in Federal prison regarding several weapon, fraud and property related charges. 
 
In 2012 BAILEY was released on his statutory release date however soon breached the conditions of his release.  On December 24, 2012 a Canada Wide Warrant for his arrest was issued.
 
On January 3, 2013 at approximately 9:30 a.m. members of the Integrated Warrant Squad with the assistance of General Patrol, Tactical Support and K9 located and arrested BAILEY in the 200 block of Smithfield Street without incident.
 
BAILEY has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

MISSING PERSON –Shaine OLSON-TRYON - R12-135601
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a missing 17 year old female, Shaine OLSON-TRYON.  OLSON-TRYON was last seen on December 24th, 2012 at Langside Street and Sargeant Avenue.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service considers OLSON-TRYON to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are very concerned for her well-being. 
 
OLSON-TRYON frequents downtown malls and the West End areas of the city including the Millennium Library.  She may have gone to Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver.
 
OLSON-TRYON is described as Caucasian, 5'5" tall approximately 100 pounds with a thin build, long blonde hair sometimes in a ponytail and blue/green eyes.




 


Anyone with information regarding OLSON-TRYON'S whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – C13-000093
On Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at approximately 1:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to a gas bar in the 1300 block of McPhillips Street regarding the report of a Commercial Robbery.
 
It was learned that a lone male, armed with a weapon demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes from the lone male employee.  The employee was not injured during the incident.
 
The suspect is described as: Aboriginal in appearance, early twenties, 5'6" – 5'8" in height, medium build with light facial hair.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this matter or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact investigators at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
 
 
SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – C13-000253
On Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at approximately 4:00 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the first 100 block of Osborne Street in regards to the report of a serious motor vehicle collision.
 
Attending officers learned that a 31 year old male had slipped off the curb and fell in front of a taxi travelling Northbound on Osborne Street.  The male was transported to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
 
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
 
 
COMMERCIAL ROBBERIES ARREST – C13-000661 & C13-000739
On Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at approximately 7:15 p.m. a lone male, with identity concealed and armed with a weapon attended to a business in the 500 block of Broadway Avenue and attempted to rob the store.  The lone employee proceeded to armed himself which resulted in the suspect fleeing the store without having obtained any goods.
 
At approximately 10:30 p.m. the suspect, again with his identity concealed and armed with a weapon attended to a convenience store in the 500 block of St. Mary Avenue.  He confronted the two employees, a 59 year old male and 55 year old female, demanded and received an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the store.
 
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched and the suspect was located in the 200 block of Balmoral Street at which time he was taken into custody without incident.
 
Cody Montana ALEXANDER, 18 years of Winnipeg was detained at the Provincial Remand Centre and is facing the following charges: Robbery with weapon x 2, Wear Disguise with Intent x 2 and Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance.   
 
 
RESIDENTIAL FIRE – C13-001380
On Thursday, January 3, 2013 at approximately 1:30 a.m. emergency personnel were dispatched to the 200 block of Aubrey Street in regards to a working fire.
 
The fire is not suspicious and at this time appears to be the result of faulty wiring.
 
Total damage is estimated $70,000.00.

FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM - WEEK #4 RESULTS
The Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has provided the results from the third week of the Festive Season Check Stop Program. 
 
851 - Vehicles were stopped
47   - Approved Screening Device (ASD) Tests were administered
4     - 24 hour suspensions were issued (ASD Warns)
18   - Drive Impaired/Over/Refusal Charges
8     - Traffic Related Provincial Offence Notices were issued
 
 
FESTIVE SEASON CHECKSTOP PROGRAM – SEASON RESULTS
The Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit has provided the final results from the Festive Season Check Stop Program.
