SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT C12-199478
On Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at approximately 11:36 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a suspicious incident that took place at approximately 3:00 p.m., in the area of Ness Avenue and School Road.

Attending members learned that a 13 year old female was walking in the area when she was approached by a lone male in a vehicle. The male attempted to speak with the female as he followed her in his vehicle. She refused to engage in conversation with the male, at which time he drove away leaving the area.

The female was not injured as a result of this incident.

The male is described as: Oriental in appearance, approximately 30 years old, medium build with short black hair.

The vehicle is described as: Newer looking dark blue medium size 4 door car.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Winnipeg Police Criminal Investigation Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-3296 or CrimeStoppers at 204-768-TIPS (8477).

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION - ARREST C12-62959

As previously released - on April 7, 2012, at approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service, including other emergency personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of the 3300 block of Portage Avenue.

The investigation has revealed that a 32 year old male driver of a Jeep Liberty had been travelling northbound in the area of Rouge Road and Allard Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle. The Jeep continued northbound crossing Portage Avenue at a high rate of speed entering a shopping centre parking lot.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop after colliding with the front of a business which had been occupied by two adult females.

As a result of the collision, a 27 year old female succumbed to her injuries. A 25 year old female survived the incident.

The investigation continued by members of the Central Traffic Unit.

A comprehensive examination was performed and it has been determined that the vehicle was mechanically sound at the time of the collision. The investigation has ruled out mechanical failure.

On September 28, 2012, at approximately 11:10 a.m., 32 year old Adebola SHOYOYE was charged due to his alleged involvement with the following offences: Criminal Negligence Cause Death, Criminal Negligence Cause Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation Causing Death and Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm.

SUSPICIOUS MALE C12-198306

On October 1, 2012, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Sharp Street and Lodge Avenue regarding a suspicious male in a vehicle.

Officers met with an 11 year old male who reported that he was approached while walking in the area by an unknown male in a vehicle. The suspect told the young male that he had been asked by his mother to pick him up and drive him to school. The victim declined and the suspect drove off, only to return a second time. Again, the suspect offered him a ride however, the victim declined.

No contact was made and the victim was not injured.

The suspect is described as: Male, Asian in appearance, 30-40 years of age, short black hair and clean shaven.

The suspect vehicle is described as: Four door, navy blue, possibly a Pontiac.

SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION - ARREST R10-32499

In early 2010, Winnipeg Police Service members received reports of sexual assault involving an adult male. These incidents allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2010 while the suspect male was employed in a Winnipeg business focusing on holistic medicine.

It's alleged that the suspect inappropriately touched several female victims during the process of receiving treatment.

After a lengthy investigation by members of the Sex Crimes Unit, additional victims were identified and an arrest warrant was issued. Attempts to locate the suspect were initially unsuccessful.

On September 20, 2012, Yven Jean BRETON, 62 years of age was located and arrested on the strength of the warrant.

He has been charged with: Sexual Assault x 5 due to his alleged involvement. He was released on a Promise to Appear.

The investigation is on-going.

WEAPON- ARREST C12-198461

On October 1, 2012, at approximately 2:30 p.m., numerous police resources responded to the area of the 1900 block of Pacific Avenue West regarding a gun seen incident.

The investigation has revealed that a male suspect drove up to a convenience store in the area of King Edward Street and Lismore Avenue and confronted a male and female victim (both 32 years of age). At the time of the incident, the adult victims were in the company of two young children.

The suspect, who is unknown to the victims, produced a handgun and pointed it in their direction, causing them to flee in their vehicle. The suspect pursued them in his own vehicle and subsequently began ramming their vehicle from behind numerous times over a distance of ten blocks.

The victims safely fled and notified police. The firearm was not discharged and no injuries were reported.

Uniform Patrol members and the Tactical Support Team located and arrested 49 year old Kevin Maurice SYLVESTER near a residence in the downtown area.

A loaded firearm was located and seized.

Officer's executed a warrant at the suspect's home where two loaded magazines were also located and seized.

He is facing numerous offences in relation to the incident. He was detained.

MISSING PERSONS – CATHERINE & KAYLA SIDOTI R12-98446

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating siblings, 13 year old female, Catherine SIDOTI and 14 year old female, Kayla SIDOTI.

The SIDOTI'S were last seen together in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg on Thursday, September 27^th, 2012 during the mid-afternoon.

Catherine SIDOTI is described as: Aboriginal, 5'2" tall, 125 lbs., with short red/brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen she was wearing a blue jacket, ripped black tight pants, white/grey skirt, black t-shirt, black shoes and a white purse.

Kayla SIDOTI is described as: Aboriginal, 5'9" tall, 150 lbs., with shoulder length straight brown hair and hazel eyes. It is not known what Kayla was last seen wearing.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for their well-being.

MAJOR FIRE EVENT C12-198582

On October 1, 2012, at approximately 5:40 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a business located in the area of Nicolas Avenue and Marion Street as a result of a fire incident.

Numerous roadways in the surrounding area have been closed to all traffic. As a result of the fire, some evacuations in the immediate area have already occurred.

For the safety of the public and to insure officers and fire personnel effectively perform their duties, motorists and pedestrians are requested to avoid the area until further notice.

Emergency personnel have noted that some members of the public have made their way toward the scene due to curiosity. These individuals are requested to leave the area immediately.

SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN – ARREST C12-197531

As previously released - on September 30, 2012, at approximately 3:55 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Lagimodiere Boulevard (Highway 59 ramp) at the South Perimeter (100) as a result of a serious motor vehicle collision.

The investigation has revealed that an 18 year old male was walking in the northbound median lane near the concrete divider when he was struck by a north bound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and the male victim sustained serious injuries. He remains in critical condition.

Members of the Central Traffic Unit continued with the investigation.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., a 27 year old male turned himself into police. He is facing the following charges: Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident Cause Bodily Harm, (HTA) Drive without a licence (Invalid).

The investigation is continuing.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – UPDATE C12-189815

As previously released - on September 20, 2012, at approximately 3:50 a.m., emergency personnel responded to the area of Beverley Street and Portage Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.

Attending members have determined that a white Toyota Prius cab was travelling southbound on Beverley Street near Portage Avenue. The cab was being operated by a 31 year old male and was occupied by a 43 year old male passenger.

The investigation has revealed that the cab collided with a tree on the west side of Beverley Street just prior to Portage Avenue. Both occupants were initially conveyed from the scene in critical condition. Since that time, the 43 year old male passenger has been pronounced deceased. The driver remains in critical condition.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit continued with the investigation which included on-going efforts to retrieve surveillance video from the cab.

As a result of the surveillance footage reviewed, investigators now possess information to support that a robbery attempt by the passenger had taken place. Also, due to an extensive search of the severely damaged vehicle, officers have located and seized a knife believed to have been used during the incident.

The investigation is continuing.

SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT C12-197178

On September 29, 2012, at approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of a serious sexual assault that occurred near Assiniboine Avenue and the Midtown Bridge.

Officers located a 27 year old female victim who related that she had met a male a few hours earlier in the downtown area. The two began walking for a period of time when the male suspect became aggressive with the victim. It was at this time a serious sexual assault occurred.

The victim eventually fled the area and notified police.

The suspect is described as: Male, approximately 28 years of age, Aboriginal in appearance, 6'00" tall, skinny build, shaved head, thin moustache, wearing beige pants, grey sweater and white baseball cap.
