Tuesday, September 11, 2012       MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOVLING A CYCLIST C12-182556 On September 10, 2012, at approximately 4:30 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the 1800 block of Notre Dame Avenue regarding a serious motor vehicle collision involving a cyclist.   The investigation has revealed that a 25 year old female was riding her bike on the sidewalk southbound on Keewatin Street near Notre Dame Avenue. It was at this time she entered the roadway where a semi-truck was making a westbound turn onto Notre Dame Avenue from Keewatin Street. While the female cyclist attempted to turn her bike back towards the sidewalk, the semi-truck, being operated by a 37 year old male driver, made contact with the bike causing the female to fall to the ground.      The cyclist was initially listed in critical condition, she has been upgraded to guarded.   District 2 uniform patrol members and members of the Central Traffic Unit attended the scene.   Interviews are on-going.     INDECENT ACT C12-182613 On September 10, 2012, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received the report of an indecent act which occurred in the area of Barber Street.   Officers met with a 21 year old female victim who advised that she had been walking in the area when an unknown male approached her asking for directions. The victim provided assistance and kept on walking. The male approached the victim on a second occasion and engaged in a conversation. The male then attended to a nearby residence only to return to the victim while exposing himself and performing an indecent act.   The victim left the area and notified police.   No arrest has been made at this time.   The male suspect is described as: Asian in appearance, mid 20's, 5'8"-5'9" tall, medium to heavy build, clean shaven, short black hair, wearing a black baseball cap, dark jeans and a white t-shirt.   The investigation is continuing by members of the WPS Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact police at 204 986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).     COMMERCIAL ROBBERY – ARREST C12-181538 On September 9, 2012, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a convenience store located in the 500 block of Osborne Street regarding a robbery in progress.   It has been determined that a lone male suspect entered the business while concealing his identity and indicating that he was armed. The suspect demanded cigarettes and obtained an undisclosed amount before fleeing.     A 33 year old female employee was not injured.   At approximately 3:30 a.m., patrolling officers located the suspect hiding in the area of the 400 block of Kylemore Avenue. He was arrested at that time.   Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued to investigate.   Riel Christian LETANDRE, 22, year has been charged with: Robbery and Disguise with Intent due to his alleged involvement.   He was detained.               For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt. Monday, September 10, 2012     UPDATE – SERIOUS ASSAULT – HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION C12-177621 As previously released, on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue regarding a serious assault.   Responding members located an injured 16 year old male who had been assaulted. Due to the serious nature of the assault, the victim succumbed to injuries sustained. The name of the deceased will not be released.     Results of an autopsy are pending.   No arrest(s) have been made at this time.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.  Anyone that may have witnessed or have any information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 204-986-7983 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).   ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-182005 On September 9, 2012, at approximately 8:40 p.m., uniform patrol members responded to the area of Elizabeth Road and Drake Boulevard as a result of a stabbing incident.   Officers have determined that a 23 year old male suspect approached a 22 year old male victim and requested to use his cellular phone. The victim refused which resulted in a physical confrontation. The suspect then produced a weapon and stabbed the victim to the upper body. The suspect fled and emergency services were notified.   The victim is in stable condition.   A 23 year old male was located in the area and arrested. The investigation continued by members of the East District Crime Unit.   The 23 year old male is facing the following charges: Aggravated Assault, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Possessing Controlled Drug or Substance, including numerous breaches.   He was detained.   INDECENT ACT AND ASSAULT C12-181405 On September 9, 2012, just after midnight, officers responded to the 700 block of William Avenue regarding an indecent act and assault involving a 22 year old female victim.   The investigation has revealed that the victim and her friend were walking to a parking area when they were approached by an unknown male. The suspect proceeded to expose himself and assault the victim to the upper and lower body. The suspect fled the area on foot and the victim sustained minor injuries.   No arrest has been made at this time.   The suspect is described as: Male, Aboriginal in appearance, thin build, 16-17 years of age, clean shaven, having visible tattoos or scars.    The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.   Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police at 204 986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).   MISCHIEF TO PROPERTY – ARRESTS C12-181 On September 8, 2012, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of McMeans Avenue East regarding damage to multiple vehicles.   The investigation has revealed that two male youth while occupying a vehicle began smashing the windows of four parked cars in the area. Damage is estimated at $2000.00.   Due to the efforts of uniform patrol, Canine Unit and Air1, both males were located and arrested.   Both males area facing the following charges: Mischief Under $5000.00 x 4.   One of the males was also in possession of a canister of bear spray. Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Sunday, September 9, 2012   FIRE    C12-181531 On Sunday, September 9, 2012 at approximately 2:50 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a fire in the 200 block of Garry Street.   An investigation revealed that a fire was ignited in a garbage bin at the rear of a building and as a result of the fire, the building sustained smoke and fire damage to the rear wall.   All individuals in the building were evacuated due to smoke from the fire. No one was injured as a result of the incident.   Damage is estimated at $50,000 dollars.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).     INDECENT ACT ARREST    C12-181074 On Saturday, September 8, 2012 at approximately 3:20 p.m., an on duty Winnipeg Police Member in civilian clothing was walking in the area of Waterfront Drive and Lombard Avenue when a male indecently exposed himself to the officer and proceeded to conduct an indecent act.   Uniform members attended to the area and located the male who was still in the immediate area. He was arrested and taken into custody.   The female police member was not injured as a result of this incident.   A 23 year old male of Winnipeg has been charged with: Indecent Act   He was released on an Appearance Notice.     COMMERCIAL ROBBERY ARREST   C12-114906 On June 16, 2012 at approximately 11:55 a.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of commercial robbery in the area of the 900 block of Main Street.   The investigation revealed that two males attended to the location and approached a 50 year old male employee. The males demanded cash and proceeded to assault the victim by spraying him with bear spray and striking him about his lower body with a weapon. Both suspects fled from the store without obtaining any property.   The victim was conveyed to hospital with minor injuries.   The Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and as a result, on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at approximately 3:25 p.m., one of the suspects was located in the area of Alfred Avenue and Aikins Street. He was arrested and taken into custody.   David Paul MURDOCK, 19 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with: Robbery with Weapon Assault with Weapon Disguise with Intent Breach of Probation Unauthorized Possession of Weapon   MURDOCK was detained in custody.       For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt. Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Saturday, September 8, 2012     FIRE INVESTIGATION   C12-180696 On Saturday, September 8, 2012 at approximately 2:55 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a working fire in the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue.   Fire crews arrived on scene and found a building that housed a residence and a business engaged in flames. Fire crews worked quickly to contain the fire at the business/residence location; however it spread to the two adjoining businesses.   An investigation revealed that the fire started at the rear of the building which quickly spread to the adjoining businesses.   All occupants of the building vacated without injury.   Damage is estimated at approximately $1,000,000.00 dollars.   Due to the fire, westbound Notre Dame Avenue from Balmoral Street to Langside Street is temporarily closed.   Emergency personnel remain on scene.   Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6813 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).     STABBING ARREST C12-180512 On Friday, September 7, 2012 at approximately 11:25 p.m., Winnipeg Police Members attended the area of the 500 block of Main Street regarding an injured male.   Attending officers located a 46 year old male with injury to his lower body consistent with being stabbed. He was conveyed to hospital in stable condition.   The investigation revealed that the 46 year old victim and a male known to him became involved in an altercation which escalated, and a stabbing occurred.   The male suspect who was still on scene when police arrived was arrested and taken into custody.   Gilbert Eugene LECLAIRE, 39 years old of Winnipeg has been charged with: Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose   LECLAIRE was detained in custody.           For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt.
