Tuesday, September 4, 2012     SUSPICIOUS DEATH - UPDATE C12-176500 As previously released, on September 2, 2012, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Burrows Avenue and Main Street regarding suspicious circumstances.   Attending officers confirmed that a body had been located.  The deceased has been identified as 23 year old, Simone SANDERSON.   An autopsy is pending and the investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.   Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).       SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE AND OCCUPANT C12-176639 At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2012, a 13 year old male was walking in the area of the 300 block of Harcourt Street when a male in a vehicle pulled up and asked if the youth wanted a ride. The youth declined the offer and the male suspect became persistent. When the suspect appeared he was going to exit the vehicle the youth fled the immediate area and contacted police.    The vehicle then left the area.   The suspect male is described as early 30 – 40 years old, average build, having tanned skin, dark black short hair, goatee, wearing a t-shirt and sunglasses.   The suspect vehicle is described as a newer dark blue 4 door sedan.   The investigation is continuing by Division 12 Detectives. Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-2839 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).       For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt. Monday, September 3, 2012     BODY LOCATED - UPDATE C12-176500 As previously released, on September 2, 2012, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Burrows Avenue and Main Street regarding suspicious circumstances.   Attending officers confirmed that a body had been located. As a result, members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continue to investigate.   Due to the on-going investigation, officers and cadets remain in the area.   Members of the WPS Forensic Identification Section were also notified and attended the scene.    An autopsy is pending and no further details will be provided at this time.     UPDATE - FINANCIAL INSTITUTION ROBBERY - ARREST C12-175662 As previously released, on August 30, 2012, at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers responded to a financial institution (bank) located in the 800 block of Empress Street regarding a robbery that just occurred.   Investigators determined that a lone male suspect entered the bank and approached one of the tellers. It was at this time the suspect demanded cash while indicating that he was in possession of a weapon.   The teller feared for her safety and complied with the suspect's demand. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.   No one was injured as a result of the incident.   On September 1, 2012, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a male suspect attended to a financial institution (bank) located in the 2200 block of McPhillips Street. Once inside, the suspect approached a teller and demanded cash while indicating that he was armed. Money was obtained and the suspect fled the area. No injuries were reported.   Due to the efforts of the Major Crimes Unit and members of the Forensic Identification Section, the suspect was identified.   On September 2, 2012, at approximately 8:35 p.m., officers located the male suspect at a residence in the downtown area of the city. He was arrested and taken into custody.   Geoffrey Wayne BENNETT, 31 years has been charged with Robbery x 2 due to his alleged involvement.   He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.       UPDATE - STABBING INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-175893 As previously released, on September 1, 2012, at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a stabbing incident in the area of Tylehurst Street and Portage Avenue.   The investigation revealed that two 20 year old males had been travelling on a city transit bus eastbound on Portage Avenue. A short time later, a third male, now identified as a 21 year old, attended and approached the two males already on the bus.   It was at this time an altercation erupted between the 21 year old and one of the 20 year old males. Both males produced knives and both sustained injuries. During the incident, the second 20 year old male attempted to intervene at which time all involved parties fled the bus.   Police were notified and eventually located the injured 20 year old male at a nearby residence.   It has been determined that both males are known to one another and the dispute appears to be on-going.   The 20 year old male is in stable condition and facing charges.   The investigation continued by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit.   On September 2, 2012, the 21 year old male suspect turned himself in to police. He is facing the following charges: Assault with a Weapon and Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose.   He was released on a Promise to Appear.     ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-176943 On September 3, 2012, at approximately 2:20 a.m., patrolling officers observed an assault in progress involving two females in the area of Sargent Avenue and Victor Street.   The investigation has revealed that a 36 year old female, in an unprovoked attack assaulted a 34 year old female. While the victim attempted to get up as a result of the assault, the suspect produced a knife and further assaulted the victim.   Division 11Uniform Patrol members arrested and took custody of the 36 year old female. The victim is in stable condition.   The 36 year old female is facing the following charges: Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Breach of Probation.   She was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.     For further information contact either: Patrol Sgt. Winnipeg Police Service News Release:

Sunday, September 2, 2012       ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON – ARREST C12-176170 On September 2, 2012, at approximately 1:00 a.m., emergency personnel responded to stabbing incident in the area of the 300 block of McKelvey Street.   Attending members located a 30 year old female victim inside a residence suffering from an injury consistent with being stabbed.     The victim was initially listed as being unstable, however she is currently in stable condition.   At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the victim and an 18 year old female became involved in a dispute while inside a residence. The situation escalated at which time the 18 year old produced knife and allegedly stabbed the victim.   Due to the efforts of Division 11 uniform patrol members, the 18 year old was located and arrested at the scene. She is facing the following charges: Aggravated Assault and Failure to Comply with a Sentence x 2.   The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section.   The 18 year old accused is currently being processed and will be detained.     STABBING INVESTIGATION – ARREST C12-175893 On September 1, 2012, at approximately 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a stabbing incident in the area of Tylehurst Street and Portage Avenue.   The investigation has revealed that two 20 year old males had been travelling on a city transit bus eastbound on Portage Avenue. A short time later, a third male attended and approached the two males already on the bus.   It was at this time that an altercation erupted. As a result of the incident, a 20 year old male was stabbed. During the assault, the second 20 year old male attempted to intervene and the suspect fled the bus. The two 20 year old males also fled the area to a nearby residence, later located by attending officers.   It has been determined that the victim and suspect are known to one another. The incident appears to be as a result of an on-going dispute.   The victim is in stable condition and facing charges in relation to breaching conditions of his sentence order. He was detained.   The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 12 Crime Unit.     ROBBERY – ARRESTS C12-176013 On September 1, 2012, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service members responded to an assault incident in the area of the 900 block of Sherbrook Street.   Emergency personnel located a 44 year old male suffering from upper body injuries. He is in stable condition.   It's alleged that two male suspects confronted the victim and proceeded to physically assault him. While the victim was on the ground, the assault continued at which time he was robbed of a quantity of cash. The suspects fled the area.   While still investigating, officers located the suspects in the area and placed them under arrest at approximately 12:10 a.m.   The investigation continued by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit.   A 23 year old male and 22 year old male are currently being processed and facing the following charge: Robbery with Violence. The 22 year old is also facing a charge of: Breach of Probation.   They have been detained.     FIRE C12-176141 On September 2, 2012, at approximately 12:15 a.m., emergency crews responded to a working fire located in the 900 block of Pritchard Avenue.   Due to the fire, a camper trailer, two vehicles and a residence sustained extensive damage. Estimates of the damage are currently $50,000.00.     The cause of the fire is still under investigation.   Members of the Arson Strike Force have been notified. Saturday, September 1, 2012       FINANCIAL INSTITUTION – ROBBERY C12-173870 On August 30, 2012, at approximately 1:55 p.m., officers responded to a financial institution located in the 800 block of Empress Street regarding a robbery that just occurred.   Investigators have determined that a lone male suspect entered the bank and eventually approached one of the tellers. It was at this time the suspect demanded cash while indicating that he was in possession of a weapon.   The teller feared for her safety and complied with the suspect's demand. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of cash.   No one was injured as a result of the incident.   The suspect is described as: Male, Caucasian, 20-30 years of age, muscular build, approximately 250 lbs., 6'4" tall, short brown hair and a tattoo on the back of his neck.     The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204 786-TIPS (8477).     COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C12-175413 On September 1, 2012, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial robbery at a convenience store located in the 3300 block of Portage Avenue.   The investigation has revealed that a male suspect entered the store and proceeded behind the cash counter. It was at this time he began removing an undisclosed amount of lottery tickets and cigarettes before fleeing on foot.   At the time of the incident, the suspect was observed to be in possession of a large knife, however no one was injured.   The suspect is descried as: Male, Caucasian, 24-25 years of age, 5'10" tall, average build, dirty blonde short curly hair, large sideburns and approximately 180 lbs.     The investigation is continuing by members of the District 2 Crime Unit.
