BREAK AND ENTER ARRESTS C11-123575

On June 15, 2011, members of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation regarding a crime spree involving a male and female suspect.

The investigation has revealed that during the morning hours of June 15^th, the two suspects broke into a residence located in the 600 block of Wellington Crescent and stole numerous items including liquor, jewellery and electronics in excess of $10,000.00. The property was placed in a vehicle belonging to the residence which was also stolen.

While operating the stolen vehicle in the area of Wellington Crescent and Doncaster Street, the suspects became involved in a motor vehicle collision and fled the area.

The suspects then attended to a second residence located in the first 100 block of Garnet Bay where they broke in and stole numerous items. Again, the property was placed into the stolen vehicle at which time they made good their escape.

While fleeing, they became involved in a second motor vehicle collision in the vicinity of Buxton Road and Crane Avenue. The stolen vehicle sustained significant damage causing the suspects to abandon the vehicle in the area of the 800 block of Crescent Drive. Prior to fleeing, the suspects removed the stolen property from the vehicle, hiding the items nearby.

Police were summoned to the area, where the stolen vehicle along with the two suspects were located and placed under arrest. Officers recovered some of the stolen property.

Due to the efforts of uniform members, including the District 6 Crime Unit, a 21 year old male and 15 year old female have been charged with the break and enters, including Highway Traffic Act offences.

They have been detained.

MISSING PERSON - Caitlin MOUSSEAU R11-0055300

The Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 16 year old female – Caitlin MOUSSEAU. She was last seen on Thursday, June 16^th 2011, at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Downtown area of Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers MOUSSEAU to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are very concerned for her well-being. MOUSSEAU frequents the Downtown and West End areas of the City. Her main modes of travel are on foot or via Transit.

MOUSSEAU is described as: Aboriginal, 5'6", 134 lbs with a medium build. She has medium length brown hair and brown eyes, a large rose tattoo on her upper right arm. She was last seen wearing a purple halter top, a black sweater, black pants and black shoes.

Anyone with information regarding MOUSSEAU's whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

STABBING C11-124210

On June 16^th, 2011 at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers, including other emergency personnel responded to a stabbing incident in the area of the first 100 block of Marlow Court.

The investigation led by members of the District 3 Crime Unit has revealed that two adult females known to each other became involved in a physical confrontation. As a result, a 26 year old female was stabbed, requiring medical attention. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition, but has since been stabilized and released.

No arrest has been made at this time. The investigation is continuing.

COMMERCIAL PASSENGER VEHICLE INSPECTIONS

The Winnipeg Police Service, as well as our partners in the transportation industry are committed to promoting safety for motorists using the streets and highways throughout Winnipeg and Manitoba.

Vehicle inspections ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in relation to the mechanical safety and standards of all vehicles and the companies they operate on behalf of.

As the Winnipeg Police Service is committed to keeping all motorists and passengers safe on our streets, the public and businesses are reminded that officers will be conducting inspections throughout the summer, including the upcoming July long weekend.

SERIOUS SEXUAL ASSAULT C11-122779

On June 14^th, 2011 at approximately 5:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a residence in the St. Matthews area of Winnipeg regarding a sexual assault incident that occurred earlier in the morning.

Officers met with a 22 year old female victim who advised that she had been confronted by an unknown male at approximately 1:30 a.m. while walking in the area of Sargent Park. The suspect approached the victim and pulled her into a yard where a serious sexual assault occurred. The victim eventually broke free and fled home, subsequently notifying a family member.

As a result of the incident, the victim sustained several upper and lower body injuries.

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit are continuing with the investigation and no further details are available at this time.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY C11-124024

On June 16^th, 2011 at approximately 4:45 a.m., uniform members responded to a commercial robbery at a convenience store located in the 500 block Keenleyside Street.

Attending members met with a 23 year old male clerk who advised that 3 male suspects armed with weapons attended to the business. Two of the males proceeded behind the counter and demanded cash and merchandise. An undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes were obtained after which time the suspects fled.

The clerk was uninjured during the incident.

The suspects are described as: Males, 16-19 years of age, Aboriginal in appearance, between 5'7"-5'9" in height, weighing between 150-180 lbs. All three males made attempts to conceal their identity.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6219 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

On Tuesday, June 14^th, 2011 at 3:50 p.m. Emergency Services Responders were dispatched to the south side area of the Forks Market, east of the Norwood Bridge, for a report of a body that was located within the river.

This investigation is in its early stages, and no further information is expected to be released today.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A PEDESTRIAN C11-122214

On Monday, June 13^th, 2011 at approximately 12:20 p.m. a 41 year old male was standing on the centre median on Higgins Avenue just west of Main Street when he lost his footing and fell onto the roadway.

The male landed in the east bound lanes of Higgins Avenue and was struck by a semi-trailer truck which was just completing a turn from north-bound Main Street onto east-bound on Higgins Avenue. The victim suffered catastrophic injuries as a result and was pronounced at the scene.

The Traffic Collision Investigations Unit is continuing with this investigation. No charges are pending.

Efforts are on going at this time to locate the next of kin.

COMMERCIAL ROBBERY- ARRESTS C11-121963

On Monday, June 13^th, 2011 shortly before 2:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police Service Division 12 Officers were dispatched to attend to a pizza business located within the 2500 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a delivery driver that had been robbed.

Upon arrival officers learned that the delivery driver had attended to an apartment complex within the first 100 block of Strauss Drive to deliver an order. As he exited his vehicle he was approached by two male suspects who had their faces concealed and were armed with weapons. The suspects then demanded all of the food items and the victims' belongings, to which he complied.

When the suspects fled, the driver returned to the business and contacted police. As a result of the efforts of a police service Canine Unit, the suspects were tracked to a suite within another apartment complex in this area. General patrol members assisted the canine unit and as a result two male suspects were located and arrested without incident.

An 18 year old male and a 14 year old male youth from Winnipeg have been charged the following offences;

- Robbery with violence

- Disguise with intent

The 18 year old male, who was released on a Promise to Appear, also faces a charge of fail to comply with conditions of undertaking, while the 14 year old male has been charged with two counts of failure to comply with a sentence. He has been detained in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

ARSON INVESTIGATION- ARREST C11-121449

On June 12^th, 2011 shortly before 11:50 a.m., Members of the Winnipeg Police Service along with Emergency Service Responders were dispatched to a residence within the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue for a report of a working fire.

Upon arrival, the unoccupied home was engulfed with flames. Fire-fighters were successful in extinguishing the fire, which resulted in an estimated $70,000.00 in damages.

As a result of the continued investigation by Division 13 Uniform Members and Members of the Arson Strike Force Unit, the cause of the fire was determined to be suspicious and a suspect was identified.

On June 13^th, 2011 at approximately 3:15 p.m. members of the Arson Strike Force Unit located a suspect male in the area of the 100 block of Mayfair Avenue where he was arrested without incident.

A 15 year old male youth has been charged with Arson to Property and he has been detained in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

FIRE INVESTIGATION- UPDATE ARREST C11-118534

As, previously released, on June 9^th, 2011 at approximately 5:00 a.m., Emergency Services Personnel responded to a residence in the 500 block of Rathgar Avenue regarding a working fire.

The investigation revealed that 2 adults and 3 children fled the residence. An adult female jumped from a 2^nd story window to escape the fire. The 41 year old female had been transported to the hospital in critical condition, where she has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Damage to the residence is estimated at $200,000.00.

Shortly before noon on June 9^th, 2011, Members of the Arson Strike Force attended to the area of the Lilac Street and Carter Avenue where they located and arrested a 15 year old male in connection with this incident. He has been charged with:

- Arson- Damage to Property

- Arson- Disregard for Human Life

He remains in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

Eastbound Higgins is closed at King Street

Motorists and pedestrians are requested to take an alternate route.
