FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A SNOWMOBILE – ARREST C11-9425

As previously released, on January 13^th, 2011 at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service, along with Emergency Responders were summoned to a field in the area of the 500 block of Redonda Street for a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a snowmobile and a pedestrian.

A 51 year old male pedestrian had been walking in a field when he was struck by a snowmobile.

The pedestrian had been transported to the hospital in unstable condition and succumbed to his injuries sustained.

The investigation continued by members of the Central Traffic Unit. On February 11, 2011 officers arrested a 22 year old male. He is facing the following charges: Criminal Negligence Cause Death and Operate an Off-Road Vehicle Carelessly.

He has been released on a Promise to Appear.

FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION INVOLVING A TRAIN – C11-30259

On February 13, 2011 at approximately 4:00 a.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to attend the CN Railway Tracks near the 1500 block of Taylor Avenue, regarding a person who had been struck by a train.

Attending members located an injured male and confirmed that he had been struck by an eastbound train. The victim, identified as an18 year old male was transported to hospital where he succumbed to injuries sustained.

At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the incident was accidental.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY C11-30266

On February 13, 2011 at approximately 7:25 a.m., Uniform members responded to a report of a strong-arm robbery which occurred earlier in the morning.

The 26 year old male victim reported that he was stopped at a red light while operating his vehicle in the area of Redwood Avenue and Arlington Street. He then observed four suspects approach the front and rear of his vehicle. One of the suspects subsequently smashed out the rear window of his vehicle and produced a can of bear spray. The suspects then demanded property which consisted of, cash, identification and a speaker box.

The suspects fled the area with the victim's property. He was not injured.

The suspects are described as follows:

Suspect 1 – Male, Aboriginal in appearance, early 20's approximately 5'6" tall, skinny build, clean shaven, wearing: a black baseball cap with white "LA", white puffy jacket and in possession of what appeared to be bear spray.

Suspect 2 – Female, Aboriginal in appearance, mid to late teens, approximately 5'00" tall, skinny build, shoulder length dark hair, wearing: a green hoodie and a black toque.

Suspect 3 - Male, Aboriginal in appearance, early 20's and wearing dark clothing.

Suspect 4 - Male, Aboriginal in appearance, early 20's and wearing dark clothing.

The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-2848 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

RESIDENTIAL ROBBERY C11-29939

On February 12, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m., uniform members responded to a residential robbery at a residence in the 200 block McGregor Street.

The investigation has revealed that three male suspects forced entry into the suite while armed with a knife and bear spray. The 50 year old male victim was physically assaulted and bear sprayed to the upper body.

The victim subsequently went to another area of the house and the suspects fled the suite. Nothing was stolen as a result of the incident.

The victim was treated for minor upper body injuries including the effects caused by the bear spray.

The suspects are described as: Males, Aboriginal in appearance, 18-24 years of age, 5'10" – 6'00" tall, wearing dark clothing.

Commercial Robbery Arrests: C11-26014

On February 2, 2011, at approximately 2:30 am, an adult female, and two female youths summonsed a Winnipeg Taxi Cab, to a commercial property in the 1400 block of Mcphillips Street.

Upon arrival, the three suspects then entered the Taxi Cab, and had allegedly disguised their identity, prior to it arriving.

The suspects then directed the driver to an address on Boyd Avenue, indicating they would point out a residence once arriving at their destination.

The driver reached the area of Boyd Avenue and McGregor Street, where a female youth suspect, who was situated in the front passenger seat, produced a weapon and demanded the victim's money.

During the victim's attempt to contact Police, the suspect situated in the front passenger side began to assault the victim with the weapon causing lacerations to his upper body extremities. The victim was able to break free from the assailants, and ran from the vehicle, and contacted the Winnipeg Police.

The suspects then drove off in the abandoned vehicle, and subsequently dumped it in the 600 block of Aberdeen Avenue.

Upon locating the vehicle, General Patrol Members observed one of the suspects in the immediate area, and after a foot pursuit, was apprehended by Winnipeg Police. She was charged with Robbery with a Weapon, Disguise with Intent, and Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose. She was held in custody at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The victim in this matter was later transported to a Winnipeg area hospital, and treated for his injuries.

The investigation was assigned to the District 3 Crime Unit for Follow Up investigation.

On February 9, 2011, Members of the District 3 Crime Unit arrested a second suspect, in the 400 block of Church Street. She was charged with Robbery with a Weapon and Disguise with Intent. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear.

On February 10, 2011, members of the District 3 Crime Unit arrested the last outstanding female, in the 600 block of Aberdeen Avenue.

Jessie Lee Berens, 28 years, of Winnipeg. She was charged with Robbery with weapon, Disguise with Intent, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, two separate Warrant of Arrest for Theft Under $5,000.00.

The accused Berens was held in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

FLIGHT OPERATIONS UNIT INCIDENT and HIGLIGHTS UPDATE C11-22567, C11-23214, C11-25394, C11-22394:

On February 2, 2011 at approximately 1:36am, the Flight Operations Unit responded to a Follow Call, to the area of Simcoe Street and Ellice Avenue, where General Patrol Members had been following a suspected stolen vehicle.

The follow incident continued, where General Patrol Members lost visual contact of the suspect vehicle. The Flight Operations Unit continued a visual observation of the suspect vehicle, to the first 100 block of Walnut Street, where the occupant abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The Flight Operations Unit held a visual containment of the stolen vehicle and coordinated the foot pursuit, where the K9 Unit successfully tracked and apprehended the suspect a short distance from the vehicle.

Subsequent computer checks confirmed that the vehicle was stolen.

A 21 year old male suspect has been charged with Theft Under $5,000.00, Flight From Police, and Drive Disqualified (Highway Traffic Act)

As result of the Flight Operations Unit being involved in this incident, No pursuit evolved.

On February 3, 2011 at approximately 1:32 am, the Flight Operations Units and General Patrol Members responded to the first 100 block of Gilia Street, in response to a possible Break and Enter.

The suspects fled the scene. As result General Patrol Members searched the immediate area with negative results. The Flight Operations Unit, were able to locate the suspects a short distance from the scene in a near by field.

A 43 and 32 year old male suspects were arrested by General Patrol Members. Further investigation revealed that the suspects did not break into the residence, and had stolen some property from the complainant's yard.

On February 6, 2011 at approximately 2:47 am, General Patrol Members responded to the area of Sheppard Street and Mapleton Avenue, for a Wellbeing call.

Police were reported that a male was seen walking in the area, bleeding from his upper body, and trying to wave down passing motorists.

General Patrol Members located the male in the area. The male appeared intoxicated and confused then ran from Police. General Patrol Members, lost visual contact of the male and the Flight Operations Unit were dispatched and attended the scene.

The Flight Operations Unit, located the male victim in the area of Mapleglen Avenue and Manor House Court, where the Unit directed General Patrol Members and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service to the victim's location, so that he could be treated for his injuries, and saving him from further danger from the cold.

The 23 year old male victim was transported to a Winnipeg area hospital in stable condition, with a laceration to his upper body and extremities.

The investigation has been turned over to District 3 Detectives for follow up.

On February 9, 2011 at approximately 8:57 pm, responded to the 500 block of Riverton Avenue, in response to a suspected Break and Enter.

The Flight Operations Unit attended and assisted with the track of three suspects. The individuals were detained by Police.

The incident has been assigned to the East District Station for follow up investigation.

Between February 4, 2011 and February 10, 2011, the Flight Operations Unit has been involved in over 50 Police related incidents. The Unit has assisted General Patrol and Tactical Support Team Members with numerous Traffic Stops with the use of the Night Sun (Spotlight).

MISSING PERSON – SHAINE OLSON-TRYON R10-72936
The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 15 year old female, Shaine OLSON-TRYON. OLSON-TRYON was last seen on the morning of February 7^th, 2011.

The Winnipeg Police Service considers OLSON-TRYON to be a child in need of protection as she is at high risk of being exploited or victimized and investigators are concerned for her well-being.

OLSON-TRYON is described as: Caucasian, 5'3" tall, 125lbs, long brown/blonde hair in a ponytail and blue/green eyes. OLSON-TRYON was last seen wearing blue jeans, black jacket with hood and black boots.

Anyone with information regarding OLSON-TRYON'S whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service 986-6222 or the Missing Persons Unit at 986-6250.

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATIONS – ARREST - UPDATE C11-24698

As previously released, on February 5, 2011 at approximately 2:40 a.m., uniform members, including other emergency personnel responded to the area of the 400 block of Elgin Avenue regarding the sound of shots fired in the area.

Attending members located two males suffering from gun shot wounds to the upper and lower body. Darren Joey SWAMPY, 19 years of age and Lee Brady SPENCE, 22 years of agewere transported to hospital in critical condition. They have since succumbed to injuries sustained.

The investigation has revealed that the victims, including other individuals had been evicted from a house party in the 300 block of Ross Avenue. A short time later, and in the area of Ellen Street and Elgin Avenue, the victims met up with a lone male who had also been evicted from the party. It was during this meeting that the lone male suspect produced a firearm and discharged it in the direction of the victims. The suspect fled the area.

The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit.

On February 5, 2011, Randy Murray WILLIAMS, 27 years of age was arrested and subsequently charged with 2^nd Degree Murder x 2 as a result of his alleged involvement.

He has since been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

STABBING C11-25271

On February 5, 2011 at approximately 11:30 p.m., uniform members responded to a residence in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue regarding a stabbing incident.

The investigation has revealed that four male suspects entered a residence and confronted several occupants. The suspects proceeded to stab three male victims, 18, 25 and 29 years of age to the upper and lower body. As a result of the incident, the victims were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The victims, including witnesses are not forthcoming with information regarding the incident.

The investigation will continue by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
